scoop and digger 1
Well we had the second round heat of the lamping comp last night. Turned out quite a night we had the weather to contend with as it chucked it down non-stop,firework displays and mad cattle . It all added to the entertainment. Both dogs had early misses before Max got of the mark with a fine catch, Undi's dog then levelled it at 1-1 and it was pretty even steven for the first hour or so. of Max then started to edge ahead after a couple silly slips (in my opinion)from Undi's deputy were the dog would have to take the rabbit on the first take or it was over the brow of the hill and out of the lamp. As you know with any competition you need a wee rub of the green to go for you unfortunately lady luck didn't favour Undi's mate with rabbits hitting fences and going straight through or finding holes or gaps in walls before the dog could strike . Max enjoyed more favour with his rabbits turning back out from the fence or sitting tight in their seats. This is not an excuse or a criticism as the dog still has to catch whats in front of it, all I'm trying to point out are the wee things you sometimes need to give you an edge. Undi's dog had opportunitys to pull the score back but couldn't take them which ultimately cost them. The first circuit ended after around two hours with 13 rabbits in the bag...9 to max and 5 to Undi's mate. After dropping the rabbits of we headed back out, we were hoping for a major turnaround and hoping that Max's dog would lose it's edge. Unfortunately it quickly became obvious that this would not happen and she continued were she left off. The final nail in the coffin was Undi's dog catching a rabbit after a really entertaining chase with skids and turns only for it to kick out and make it down the hole which was only inches in front of it. Max's dog hardly missed a rabbit and again Undi's dog was left to try and hang on to her coat tails. Anyway we finished the second stint 5 - 2 in Max's favour, not bad considering the conditions there was plenty of runs to be had just wasn't undi's night. Final score Max 14 Undisputed 7 Disappointment aside it was a good night out in good company we met two top class lads and their hospitality was second to none . So a big shout out to Max and Buckshot hope to see you both again....cheers lads and well done the dog all the best for the rest of the comp.
