if it was just external noises you could try doing what i used to do with an old dog of mine and leave the radio or tv playing quite loudly(plenty of bass) it does work its also quite good for dogs that bark.

Its a terrible thing to be scared,...I've been there myself on several occasions ;)

However,..for an animal that CANNOT reason or work out what the feck is going on,.it must be torture

In my experience,.this situation generally gets worse as the animal gets older...

Trying to make a load of noises and desensitize the critter to loud bangs and crashes works ok with young dogs, but once an adult critter gets the fear in his head, it rarely helps matters,..just freaks the fecker out even more. I used to have a handy sort of whippet x kelpie bitch. She was very good at the ferreting game, but had a thing about thunder ,.fireworks,.loud bangs,.you name it. I used to work her with a shotgun and it never bothered her,..it was the 'whizz-bang' of the rockets that upset her. AS for thunder,.she could sense that a storm was brewing hours ahead of it actually hitting...She would leap/jump or crawl over ridiculously high fences and disappear for a few days,..god knows where ? When locked in a room for her own protection she would go round the walls like a mad thing and knock pictures off and even tear the lampshades out!. Poor wee devil. I've seen many similar cases and it hurts just watching them...

Personally,.I would speak to your Vet...

I completely agree. Ive got a bitch who was bomb proof. It started with a firework being thrown into the yard. It has now progressed as she ages to dog whistles, smoke detector, RAF jets or any noise out of the ordinary. Displays the same as yours. I think once YOU get used to it and stop worrying he will relax quicker, they can pick up on your vibes. I just totally ignore her now. Let your dog find a place in the house to hide and leave him there. Ive tried some herbal remedies and they didnt work, once an older dog knows the score nothing will change its mind, also asked at the vets and other than sedation, which they wouldnt really advise nothing else is really available.

MOLL.

Got terriers( I now, they are a litlle harder), and you can shot a 12g next to them, they even blink an eye! But around newyear and with stormy wheater, crackers thunder and lightning, they lay under the chair!

its normal behaviour I think, and 90% of all have it.
