matt241075 12 Posted October 30, 2009 Report Share Posted October 30, 2009 hi all went out yesterday for the first time this season(bit early maybe). i replaced all the battries in both box and collars and seemed ok then while the ferrets were underground there both went off. i got one ferret back the other is still at large.i went back this morn but no luck. the collar i got back works but when you fiddle about with the battrey cap it goes on and off. has anyone had the same trouble ? can there be fixed? thanks matt Quote Link to post

kabar 14 Posted October 30, 2009 Report Share Posted October 30, 2009 Had just the same when I used mine for the first time a few weeks ago, if you push it to the side it works but not all the time. I don't think the collar can be fixed. I sold mine and just had a MK3. The only thing I thought of too try and make it useable was if the collar was taped up after the batteries were put in pulling it to the side. Quote Link to post
comanche 3,312 Posted October 30, 2009 Report Share Posted October 30, 2009 Usual problem ,as has been said ,is some sort of poor contact between the batteries and the either the little copper terminal set in resin in the middle of the main part of the transmitter or a poor connection between the battery and screw-on cap(the cap doubles as the negative battery connection - it is not just to keep the batteries from falling out!) or a bad connection between the screw-on cap and the main transmitter . Things to check; Copper terminal not dirty. -clean with rough cloth /fine sandpaper etc Screw threads clean and unworn. If the threads are worn the contact will be poor Cap screwed up firmly but not overtightened . Water or dirt entering the collar and ruining the contacts or shorting the batteries . As mentioned by "the one" it is very important to wrap tape around the transmitter to stop this happening and also to stop the battery cap coming loose . Something that is often overlooked is battery handling . The batteries should not really be handled with the fingers as the grease can actually cause leakage of power . Anyone who has seen a jeweller change a watch-battery might have noticed that they use a cloth or plastic tweezers to handle the battery . Do not overtighten the battery cap as this can dent the positive terminal of the battery and cause a bad contact . So , I know I sound like an anorak but I do hope this helps .
