Introducing dogs to ferret

Can anybody advise me the best way to introduce my springer to new ferrets. The dog is happy to sniff round the cage and doesnt get too exited.

Not sure whether the dog wants to hurt them or play also not sure if the ferrets will nip her as they show no fear. help please

the way i got my dog used to ferrets was to muzzle him for a while whilst letting the ferret out with the dog

after a while the dog should get used to the ferret i also let my ferret bite the dog to get him afraid of it

Throw the ferret in front of the dog mate he shouldnt touch it.All it needs is trust.Guard the ferret [bANNED TEXT] you let it go in the garden. My spaniel would not touch em and they bight his cheeks.LOL

Assuming your dog is reasonably obedient and stock-broken there should'nt be a problem . Coupled with the fact that a ferret will probably nip the dog if it does get a bit too curious there should'nt be a problem especially if the dog starts to realise that ferrets mean fun in the form of days out rabbiting .

Some dogs and ferrets get quite playfull and if yo are on hand and your dog is not the snappy type then see how they react . If in doubt simply get your dog to treat the ferret as it would any other livestock and ignore it .

 

Most problems occur with excitable , untrained dogs and your spaniel sounds quite sensible .

Thanks for the advice, may try the muzzle technique and see what happens. am sure the dog will not hurt them but will see. thanks again
