Guest Daks Posted October 20, 2009 Report Share Posted October 20, 2009 im looking to buy my first lurcher i want it for rabbits and fox,my mate as a collie greyhound merle wich he uses to hunt out on the hill and i was well inpressed and he swears by the cross so thats what im after,and i was looking at the hancocks so i thought id ask on here for anyone with exsperiance of his lines before i commit to buy,any info will be much appreciated thanks lads. hi, to be fair these are like marmite, some love them some hate them its like out else really you cant please everyone!! me personally i like saluki and bull x's but if i am totally honest a red hancock merle is what got me into dogs back in the mid 90's, what a grafter it was.In early 2000 i met up with a lad who owned a blue merle and she too worked brilliant on eveything you put her on she gave 110% on everything for a first lurcher in my opinion (which means nowt) you wont go far wrong with a hancock dog just rememer the saying you only get out what you put into it all the best buddy...daks Quote Link to post

whin 463 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Share Posted October 20, 2009 ye i no chalkie but truthully if they were the dogs for the job i would had havent ,went past them as they could catch a rabbit and run a bit but over heated, took a while to mature , there for first time buyers and people who like them, a dog to me has to work with me and run alot ,i was out for 6 hrs last nite stubble running walking, big chases a tiring nite with a few dogs and i think back to my old colie cross of hanckock , he would be dead or at least electores , were i hunt big feilds woods and plenty well game ,but not many rabbs but they can all run had a young lad out last nite he says fech these things can run, i says how do you think its took me years to get dogs that can hack it and stay sound ,the younger member done his self proud and his dog a future hunting guy ,hees in the lamping competion with a handy dog or should i say good dog , he went home educated and well happy Quote Link to post
teddybear 29 Posted October 21, 2009 Report Share Posted October 21, 2009 cant see what difrence it makes if the parents havent had the chance to work I would disagree with that sentence 100%, if you wanted a spaniel for shooting, a collie for herding, a greyhound for racing aor any other working dog for that matter isn't it imperative to give yourself the best chance available by purchasing from tested parents? Would you rather have a dog from parents than have done the job and proven themselves or two parents who spend their lives kenneled and chained? Doesn't need any pondering in my book. The number of pups churned out means that some will make the grade but im sure most dont................ diffrece of opinion pal but i thoughly checked over the dam and sire and both lookd tip top as did the pups but would be an added bounous if the parents wer working well but that doesnt guarentee all the pups will mate atb Quote Link to post
