high there all nailer here :) im not gonna lie and pretend to be"the great white hunter"im new to bringing a pup on and am only asking advice please, ive owned working dogs, lurchers and worked them but they where allready working by the time i had them, ive recently purchased a first x beddy whippet, rilingtonxlaguna half n half loverly bitch, now whilst shes a little young now i was just wondering if there was any little tips to get her on the right road,i walk the land i shoot all the time so she will be doing that with me,then eventually ill intrduce her to the monkeys, and do some holes with her, would it be a good idea to take her out with the lads they run bullx or will she pick up bad habbits, will it be better her just being with me,shes way to young yet but i want to give her the very best start to hopefully a long coursing life, thanks fellas, nailer

If your going to use your dog to work with the ferrets, then let it walk in front of your cages, that way your dog and ferrets will get used to each others scent, I did this with my pup, she's seven and a half months old now and hits the escaping rabbits and not the ferrets, and if one of my ferrets wanders off she will follow it to see if it bolts any thing, handy if your busy and dont notice your ferret doing one :D

Depends on the dog you plan on taking her out with.Does the dog have bad habits or not does it do its job is it well beahved ive found other dogs can teach pups and other dogs loads of good things and the odd bad thing too sometimes.I took my bitch out herself a few times and with other dogs on her own but well behaved ones lol.Other dogs will teach her social skills and help her be more confident but make sure you dont take her out with a nutter

thanks lads, she will be mainly coursing rabbits, but i will introduce her to the ferrets, shes to scatty at the minute just sorting that out first, the ferrets allready are aware of dogs,i think ill just walk the land with her close to my side, then ill probably keep a rabbit back when shes a few month older, and let her deal with it in the garden, get a taste, shes retreiving a dummy at the moment so ill stick on that, just time and commitment to her eh lads,

I'm sure you mean a dead rabbit for her to rag! A live one would be classed as baiting and get yourself nicked. Remember thia is an open site.

Good luck with her.

let your pup be a pup then start training. 1st get it jumping fences walls 1st then move on 2 wire and get them bringing objects back 2 hand. but you must always reward your pup so there is something in it for them. dont bring it out with another dog unless the dog is will trained but slip it with a big dog so it knows about gates and ditches. have my own litter at the moment 11 pups keeping 2 and cant wait till l start training them but pain in hole at the min noise fuckers :):)

you can not get done for letting a live rabbit go for your dog its diff not baiting rabbits are vermin if that was the case every greyhound man in this country would be in the nic :o:o

well had the dog 4 wks this saturday coming, and i must say shes coming on well, took some time like you all said for her to build confidence, shes nearly 100% now just gettin her back to me when shes bumped into another dog :hmm: apart from that shes very good, she wont leave my side whilst walking,if i step to the side shell ship off a few feet then shell come back to the side which shes done all herself[proud],shes gott a bosting nose on her marking every hole we pass and in the bush also,i walk the land i shoot with her every other day over 2 mile radius from home then back she loves it,the other day whilst in the wood she bought a rabbitts head back to the missus and dropped it at her feet. i was in the wood looking for sets and just heard the missus do a allmighty gasp,ha ha,she hasnt actually sat anything up yet but she will, ill let you all no how shes coming on as time tells, nailer
