I would take her off the bakers for a start and get a better quality kibble. Tripe and mince in with the kibble is good for weight gain. If you can get them from your butchers, whole breast of lamb is a good to add bulk. She would obviously only need half or a third at this age i would presume. You could also try and up her feed to 4 times a day, little and often is better for weight gain than bigger meals less often.

Canned rice pudding mixed with tuna fish is also good as a build up, however i wouldn't feed it too excess . . . . no more than 2/3 times a week.

Was this the red pup in a recent thread that you posted?

Bakers is full of crap and e numbers mate its been linked to behavioural problems in dogs etc.Id feed her something decent like royal canin you can get the pup one its 32 percent i think. That should help her and give her two meals a day with a bit extra and maybe some pasta or rice through it.

I used to feed my pups 6 times a day at that age. They used to get Minced Liver/Rice Pudding/Weetabix. As well as a Puppy Food. As it was said earlier in the Thread Lambs Breast is Great for getting Weight on a dog,but your Pup is to young for a Whole one yet.

thanks for all the replies , will change her diet and get her off the bakers, will let you know how she gets on, hannah4181 it is the red pup in my other post.

She is lovely, from the pictures it didn't look like she was under weight. Getting her of the bakers will improve her all round whatever, and adding a few other bits mentioned will ensure she gets enough to keep the weight on her. Puppies also tend to get varying increases and decreases in appetite depending on growth spurts, its not un common for them to look scrawny 1 day and fat and chunky the next.

Keep us posted, she's yummy!

Dont try, some are naturaly skinny its just the way they are,

trying to pile weight on her fast could end up causeing her problems in the long run

when older, solong as shes eating well and has lots of energy,

then she will be fine, you will probably find when shes older she will put the weight on,

one of my bitch's - no matter what i did would never put weight on, she actualy looked like she was never fed,

once i stopped trying and worrying the weight came on her with out me noticeing now she looks good.

Bakers is horrible stuff as is pedigree chum and a few others.Had a collie here for a week or two he was on bakers when he came and i put it straight in the bin changed him onto the stuff my dogs where eating at the time which was a working dog food and he changed in 3 days.Spoke to a rescue re him as i dont do collies and it was either i take him or his owner chap him on the head and hes was only 8 months old.Lovely example of the breed too. They told me a few facts about bakers and i was totally shocked as soon as he changed his food the dog stopped being as hyper and being a bit agressive it turns out ex owner used to kick him up and down the place and leather him with the dog chain so when you went to put his lead on he would nip you and his manners where non existent he had no training not even sit or f all and spent hours a day running him up and down this big hill with a tennis ball and thats where he met his new owner and hes thriving for the past year. They spoke to a vet re his weight as he was skinny and they did tests to no avail no hes getting lots of exercise along with the food hes filled out nicely. My sal x wont eat or put weight on unless hes getting a decent run everyday
