My ferrets are on that food i was wanting to get them on day old chicks for the winter but i have no transport to the hatchery and i cant drive i am to young lol and it is miles away so i think ill be just keeping them on that with he odd bit of meat now and then

Why not get them some frozen chicken peices, mine love them, just a bag from somewhere like iceland or farmfoods will do, as long as they are defrosted properly

I may be corrected but I'm sure Simon whithead told me once not to feed to many dead chicks something to do with the down irritating their digestive tract and he knows pretty much everything about the little fella's

I think the yolk sack in them causes probs when given too much also. Mine get chicks about once a week, they go POTTY for them.

I feed raw all the time but have dry food for times ive forgot to defrost the meat, or if im going away for a few days i can put a heap of it in, or relatives can feed it easier for longer hols. And i have to say they do seem to love the dry food.

:11: Tell me if I'm wrong but i can't for the life off me remember the last time a pigeon or rabbit I shot has had a little label on it with all the % of protien, ash, fibre etc  and my ferrets look well enough ;) . If there is anyone who lives close enough and would like frozen pigeon for there ferrets then give me a shout as I've usually got plenty in the freezer. please pm me your details or phone number and we can sort things out.

All the best Phil

I keep mine on chicks when im out of other stuff never had a problem unlike that shite they call dry ferret feed, as a supplement fair enough but its no way good enough to be the sole diet for any aged ferret

I use to sqeeze the yolks out Moll and then give it to them. Fed them on chicks 10 years ago when i hed no rabbit or other stuff, they did great on them, no harm at all. ;)

Infact, if their is anyone over here in Southern Ireland that knows of a supply, please contact me, id be intersted in getting some,

Cheers,

Frank.

I once had a spell of feeding my ferrets on day olds. I used them in the summer. Handy to have in the freezer. It led to one of the biggest calamitys ever. (Some of you may have read this one before?) :

I used to break a chunk of them off. Put that in a plastic box. Pop the box in the microwave and hit Defrost. Half an hour later they were floppy and ready to serve.

So, one night we had a friend round and were, frankly, rather tying one on. I broke away from the sizzling conversation to chuck the chick block in the box. Twisted the dile and rushed back to rejoin the chat.

Thirty minutes later, hearing the 'Ding!' from the tiny kitchenette, I rushed out there. And began heaving. As did my wife and company the moment they came out to see why I was gagging and screaming.

I hadn't put them on Defrost. They were over done to a turn. Bursting. Bubbling. Sizzling better than any conversation. I promise you: There is Nothing in the world quite like a couple of dozen, baked day old chicks :icon_eek:

That is nasty  My daughter put this savoury rice stuff in the microwave without realising she was ment to add water, that started burning along with the container, apart from me leaving a Fox in the truck over the CLA wk-end was one of the worst things I've ever smelt.

Regards Rob
