jac 12
bet it was an Akita. got one near me , no end of trouble. try not to avoid dogs when out, as this will make pup worse. keep him on lead and walk passed dogs as if nothing happand. try not to comfort him if he gets scared, just stay calm and and try to get him to keep walking. and stay away from the Akita. poacher3161 1,766
I had the same trouble with an akita i solved the problem very easy by carrying a stout walking stick. Just try and keep your pup away from it and get him around strange freindly dogs his confidence should soon come back at the age hes at.Like's been said it does need reporting as if it had been somebody less exspeirienced walking my dogs i know i would be a spaniel short now.atvb dell
Guest chook
Sorry to say but your dog ran back to his dog, it dosent matter if you dog was just saying "Hello" to the other dog, as far as the law gos they will not do anything, just cause a dog bit the pup, dosent mean a child will be next, we all have to teach our dogs unless allowed - then they cant just go up to other dogs, your pup could actualy be classed as out of controal, if his dog ran up to yours and bit the pup, then that would be a different matter altogether. Suda cream will be fine for the pup, purple spray you can get at any horse place, its used on horses, but depending on how big the wound is, you might need to see the vet, as neck wounds can sometimes be difficult to heal, as its a high movement area, the pup needs to be back out meeting other dogs as soon as possable, if you know some of the other dog owners in the area - ask them if you can scocalize your pup with there dogs, first meeting i would have the pup on lead, just so it dosent get scared and do a runner, once the pups relaxed let it off to have a play. Wild_and_Irish 11
Best way to get his confidence up is to act as if nothing ever happened, because if you start comforting the pup when meeting other dogs it will become worried. Also when walking past agressive dogs, always be ready to lift the boot in it if it tries anything, because as leader of your 'pack ' the pup depends on you to protect it, and if you do, it reassures the pup it's safe. It might sound silly but it works.

Guest chook
It happens to us all, we've all been there. I walk 4 at a time, and sometimes when out have bumped in to someone with there dogs onlead unexpected, it can be difficult to get all mine back on lead quickly - but i just learn and move on, have started teaching all mine the wait command now, as soon as i say wait they have to stop what there doing and stand still.
