langouroux 14
Hi guys and gals, my mate is pestering me to take his boy out clay pigeon shooting, or for a rabbit or two. but he is only 9 i think, do kids this young use 12G's? i know some who have 20 bore etc, and are very good with them to, but he isnt a very big lad for 9 years old and im worried its going to take his shoulder off. so maybe a small load cartridge? if so what load? failing that i'll have to make him give me the money for a cheap 410! hahaha Quote Link to post
borderboy 80
depends on the size of the lad, if hes a fairly big lad he'd be fine, but if he's not he'll get beaten about by it... it also depends on the size of your gun... if hes big enough to handle the gun safely and comfortably, try him with a light load on the clays and go from there, something like a 21gm 8's... Deker 3,491
Hi guys and gals, my mate is pestering me to take his boy out clay pigeon shooting, or for a rabbit or two. but he is only 9 i think, do kids this young use 12G's? i know some who have 20 bore etc, and are very good with them to, but he isnt a very big lad for 9 years old and im worried its going to take his shoulder off. so maybe a small load cartridge? if so what load? failing that i'll have to make him give me the money for a cheap 410! hahaha My lad let go his first 12g at 10, I was behind him and a pal to the right to catch him/the gun if required...aimed about 500" across a just ploughed field in the general direction of an obvious and very large Oak! He was hooked! He had fired plenty of air rifles/pistols and rimfires before but he loved the shotgun and still does. Difficult one this...410 perhaps or a 20, but a light load on a 12 is not necessarily going to be much use at stopping quarry! Perhaps an arguement in these circumstances to suggest coming back in a year or two!! Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
i agree with deker personally i would go for the 410 option good all round gun.....even for clays !!!!! atb sean Quote Link to post
