WORKING FERRETS?

these types of threads always make me chuckle, some say dont do this, others say you must do that.

 

Just for the record last year i started my young kits off at 4 months old, now their going like the fecking clappers.

Last week i took one of my new kits out who also happens to be 4 months old and believe it or not she was bolting rabbits Stunning isnt it :11:

 

OBVIOUSLY, kits in thier first year will never be as good as tried and tested 1 or 2 year olds, they are still learning the tricks ffs. But wait until they are a year old before you try them and they have to learn it from scratch then.

Realy is common sense.........

Maybe im lucky i got 12 old experianced ferrets here and i maybe work four or six daily and swap them over ,theres only one place i use all my ferrets and have used 18 ferrets there. By that it means i can give any kitt i keep time to MATURE how can anybody say they all should be ready to work at such and such a age ,there like kids there all differnt . When i think the kitt would be ready i will let it see a bit and little and often as the season goes,but i wouldn't class it as a worker properly till its second season.

I agree Bob, i think they are all different & they should be allowed to mature, i favour hobs personally and wouldnt get them castrated untill they are at least 6 months old so would probably introduce them with a seasoned worker after there castration, in my case it would be around christmas time allowing them to recover fully from there operation , that would be my choice.

 

My pair are very hormonal at the moment & have marked each others necks where they have been very rough with each other but they have no visable signs of any balls yet, but as they live inside with me i am able to keep a close eye on them & there behaviour but again personally these two are still very much kits , they look like kits & all they want to do is eat & play, so i am prepared to let them enjoy being kits & wouldnt expect to much from them when i do decide to work them, it takes time , at the end of the day i still respect them & there welfare even if they dont turn out to work like stink, they will have a home for life

I agree, as i have said before, all ferrets are different. My hob i have, is a big kit, his big, but a big kit.

My youngest jill funnyly enough, means bussniess already and is less interested in play, but, i will let her get stronger more and wait a wee bit longer.

 

Now, my other 2 oldest jills, mean real buissness and seem to look for things whilst exersising and go threw their plastic pipes a lot and come straight out when called to hand, without dancing around.

 

When i do take them out, it will be very laid back affair to start with, nothing seriouse and i wont expect a lot, but as i have said from past experience, you can be pleasently surprised.

Well I hope to get out next week as I need eight rabbits for the local Cub Pack ...And I'll be taking this years ferret kits along for the ride, they can have a wander through a few labyrinths while I pick up the nets

Well i just got back from a couple of hours out, picked up a dozen for the dogs and i took a 4 month old kit with me.

Wonders will never cease, she bolted a good few rabbits...... :11:
