Lerk 0
Hi all, just picked up two young hobs from this years litter and I am planning to vasectomise one and castrate the other (hopefully this should mean minimum separation will be required come breeding season...) obviously I can't have the vasectomy done until full maturity, but will I need to castrate the other before this time? Does castration work better younger as in dogs and horses due to hormonal changes? I'll obviously not be working the hoblet but I'm not sure which I want to work as yet... How long can I wait before making my decision? TIA LERK Quote Link to post

TIA LERK i havent had any castrated here under 12 months old , early neutering is linked to health problems later in the ferrets life , also bare in mind the one you vacectomise will still be entire & will probably try to mate the castrate when in season if there caged together so you may have to seperate them Quote Link to post
Lerk 0
That'll make things easier to decide then! I can probably even work them both before choosing too! I've got them in with the two jills at the mo, but have the ability to close off different areas of my mega-hutch (somewhere between a hutch and a court!) when they need separating. I'm hoping to only need to split the hoblet from the main area... Quote Link to post
