bullmastiff 615
Round my way it's almost all dairy farms so the fields are all fairly small with large blackthorn and hawthorn hedgerow's all round and the bunnies don't usually stray to far (10-15yds)from the hedges even at night, When out Lamping your usually lucky to get within 40-50yds before they bolt for the hedge, quite often out of range for the shotgun and air rifle but my mates got a FAC rated air rifle so their just about in range for him, but question is would a dog be able to get them at that sort of distance before they got to the hedge? I can't get a firearms licence as theres already someone with their rifle registered to that permission (only takes the deer though) The grounds usually quite soft with tuffty grass and thistles across most of it with a few small spinney's every couple of fields. Guest RobW71
Get the right night you'll be able to creep up on'em. Where abouts in Somerset are you from bud? If the land is already deemed suitable by the cheif officer, it should make aquiring a fac a bit easier. Failing that, I'll bring the Ferrets over . Regards Rob Quote Link to post
blando 0
Correct me if im wrong but they should be ok on the lamp if you choose the [bANNED TEXT] night and they are not to lamp shy. You will probably be better of with a small whippet type as they have quite quick acceleration.. Quote Link to post

bullmastiff 615
It's not a huge area as my friend has sold most of the cows off and is renting half the fields out now, used to have loads of land round here to ferret on but had to get rid of them when I moved. Wouldn't of thought it would be too hard to get permission again round here, as long as I'm not after Deer I'm close to the somerset/dorset border on the A303 town called Wincanton. Your more than welcome to head over with the Ferrets Rob, I used to keep some years ago but then moved to a flat with a shared garden so couldn't get anymore. Soon be moving in with my girlfriend and daughter so should be able to get some more soon! Drop netting, is that another name for a long net??? I've never tried it, wouldn't mind giving it a go though! could work well if you could get it close enough to the hedge. Just suggested the idea of a whippet to the missus and she just gave me that look!!! she wants something she can cuddle! apparently the bully weighs to much and the spanial always stinks of cow and fox sh*t! Can you get quick Terriers or teddy bear suits to fit a whippet??? :11: Quote Link to post
