colliejohn 840
This is my 4 year old dog who is a handy type best suited to ferreting and hunting up on rabbits . and my 3 year old Whippet x Cattle dog. nice dogs mate, you dont need large dogs to catch rabbits as smaller dogs are quicker off the mark and more agile, and dont tend to get knocked up as much, like your whippet xcattle dog did you breed it yourself.regards collie john. Guest rabbiter
right lads ,finaly got the camera, know how to post pictuces....and its only taken about 3 years to learn...lol both these dogs are by my very good whippet dog ,so are in fact half brothers. The Irish cross is just one of dogs that isn't great but does his job day in and day out ..quietly..you never notice him...he has a great tracking nose as has his mother ,the other dog is out of a cattle bitch ..thats a type of collie we have here used for driving cattle ,but these aren't aussie cattle dogs ,ours are alot different, and some show alot of eye. This dog is ok and has a neat trick of casting out in front when the others brush a rabbit, putting him in the "Right" place. We do alot of brushing and want a dog thats not knocked up all the time ,so we like the small type ,which while they aren't quite as fast as a bigger dog they are just great for the thicker stuff ,where they can duck and dive and turn quickly and thats where we catch most of our rabbits. this one was hiding between the two holes and the dogs only took a few mintues to dig him out . TOMO 29,272
i know warrener gets some stick for some of his films, but he did a very intresting article recently for earth dog running dog about old time warreners , there were some good pics about 100 years old and some clippings from exchange and mart i think with lurchers for sale and a number of these were Irish terrier cross's. in some of the old pics you could see the difrence between the colie types and the terrier types. just goes to show its not a new thing experimenting with the terrier types Quote Link to post
Guest MOLLY
just goes to show its not a new thing experimenting with the terrier types I know, but trying to find out info about these types is very hard. people will either say they are crap so dont bother or no info at all MOLL.
