I know this may be a stupid question but

my pups

Sire: Bedlington /Whippet

Dam: Bedlington /Whippet

 

Does this make my pup

1/2 Whippet 1/2 Bedlington ???

Technically it is but in reality the pups couldmlook like anything from a beddy to a whippet.

 

They won't though because the genetics of it ain't that simple and a lot of the traits need multiple genes to show themselves.

 

 

In theory you could look at it this way (sorry in advance this may sound a bit like school):

 

Take 100 red marbles and 100 Blue marbles

 

RANDOMLY take 50 from each pile to form the 1st cross. You will have 50 blue and 50 red regardless of random process.

 

OK

 

If you now have two piles of 50/50 Blue/Red and you took 50 randomly ffrom each to get the cross.

 

Well you would have 100 marbles but very unlikely they would be even colours.

 

I KNOW this is a VERY simple way of looking at it but hope it helps.

 

For the sake of argument call it a 1/2 cross but just be aware that pups won't be as uniform as a straight cross.

I don't think you will have any problems with the pup. A lots of traits like speed, size etc are composed of lots of genes and have almost a continious variation. It is not like say coat colour which is much simplier.

 

I think you will have a cracking pup and the most important factor is the trainer, breeding helps but good dogs are the result of someone putting the time in.

 

Any chance of a couple of pics? How old is the pup?

with a litter like that u can often tell wat way they will go by the time they are about 8 weeks! a fella i know has bought a pup from a litter of bull/grey x bull/grey. he said he picked the pup that looked more greyhoundy because quite a few looked like full bull terrier. wat did your pup look like [bANNED TEXT] you picked it out??

in this type of breeding we call them 2nd cross

if the sire and dam of the pups are quick enough the pups should be, 99.9% of lurchers no matter what cross or breeding should be able to catch bunnies in an open field their not that much of a challenge for the dog to be truthfull mate
