Dosser 52
This one is ancient, but the best discription of a course ever imho. As when thy impatient greyhound bounds oer the glade to course the fearful hare, she in her speed does all her safety lie He with double speed pursues his prey Over runs her at the sitting turn Yet licks his chops in vain, but blows upon the flux She seeks the shelter that the neighbouring covert gives and gaining it she doubts if yet she lives. Hope i dont sound like a geek lol, i love old hunting poems, i got loads of em. Quote Link to post

Macsen 4
Theres a little book called 'lurcher ways and lurcher days' full of quotes, poems and stories, well worth a read if you can find it. Quote Link to post
Macsen 4
Heres one for you "He's built like a gipsy's whippet...all bones and bo**ocks!" used to describe a person of extremely slight build! Quote Link to post
cocker 2,655
I had a long-legged lurcher dog, I kept her in me keeping. She'd flush out hare, on a moonlit night, While the gamekeepers lie sleeping, While the gamekeepers lie sleeping. One day the policeman collared me, To have me in his keeping. Your brindle made a moonlit raid, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping. I seen her come out of the wood, Across the fields a-speeding. A partridge she had in her mouth, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping. But my dog's black and white you see, So I'm not for your keeping. He couldn't see, I'd brindled she, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping. One day his wife fell mortal ill, He had to give up p'licing. But I dropped one bird on his door each night, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping. Now she fared so well upon pheasant broth, Her colour come back creeping. So long as my bitch roamed abroad, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping, While the gamekeepers lay sleeping. Now the bitch she pupped and I given him one, To have in his own keeping. Now he's left the force, and he roams wi' me, While the gamekeepers lie sleeping, While gamekeepers lie sleeping. cocker Quote Link to post

cocker 2,655
Of all the pheasants shot on shoots In covert or amongst the roots, There’s none tastes finer than the one Taken at night without a gun cocker Quote Link to post

cocker 2,655
THE LINCOLNSHIRE POACHER When I was bound apprentice in famous Lincolnshire Full well I served my master for more than seven year Till I took up with poaching, as you will quickly hear Oh! 'tis my delight on a shiny night, in the season of the year As me and my comrades were setting of a snare 'Twas then we seed the gamekeeper - for him we did not care For we can wrestle and fight, my boys and jump o'er anywhere Oh! 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year As me and my companions were setting four or five And taking up on him again, we caught the hare alive We caught the hare alive, my boys, and through the woods did steer Oh! 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year I threw him on my shoulder and then we trudged home We took him to a neighbour's house, and sold him for a crown We sold him for a crown, my boys, but I did not tell you where Oh! 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year Bad luck to every magistrate that lives in Lincolnshire Success to every poacher that wants to sell a hare Bad luck to every gamekeeper that will not sell his deer Oh! 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year a folk song Quote Link to post
