when to start ferreting

Just want to know when everybody is starting to ferret are you all waiting for the seaon or starting in august.

hi mate dont realy know when the season startes. i have heard some people say, wait untill the first frost but the way the weather is now days that dose'nt come till oct/nov, so who knows

I have always left ferreting till mid October/November, depending on how many bunnies are about ,each year it fluctuates when there has been Myxi about.

What are the signs of mixy and is it still safe to ferret mixy rabbits.

they have big scabby eyes that are nearly shut and there ass swells up and it spreads like aids and i think its safe to ferret mixy rabbits there just a bit dosey and u would probly end up digging alot.

Where do you think it comes from and can it spred to domesticated rabbits.ie is it air born as well as transmited.

some people say that it is put down as in given to a caught ,rabbit then released.the disease is spread by flies,fleas and i would also think sheep ticks,it is also passed on when a healthy rabbit comes into contact with a mixy rabbit and yes it can be passed on to pet rabbits

if a pet rabbit court mixy is ther a cure and how come ferrets dont catch it.

Yes there is a vaccine against mixi for pet rabbits. It also works on wilds!

No cure for myxo but you should get pet rabbits vaccinated for it before it's to late.

I do little bits of ferreting about the end of september just doing some easy to net warrens then about november i start doing my serious ferreting on the bigger warrens

I have always started ferreting on the first frost, but i think this year it's going to be when I get up on a morning and need to put the heating on cos it's too cold, too cold for me, too cold for the rabbits to still be breeding

ive been a couple of times in the last few weeks

just to keep them down a bit

 

just doing small burys around a garden just so it looks like im doing my job
