Has anyone else experimented using differant cartridges to find which suits them best? I used Express, which I found was dirty and left tram lines, and not always the cleanest of kills, I'm now using Winchester which I find a slightly quicker than the RC which is another good clean, fast cartridge.

I posted this elsewhere recently, but I generally use eley grand prix 30g #6 fibre wad.

My game gun is old and light, has 2 1/2" chambers and patterns well with the eleys. I use this cartridge for just about everything, especially game. I also avoid having to scrape plastic out of the non-chrome lined barrels by sticking to fibre wad.

For heavier work I'll use #5's or #4's for fox.

The sporter is another story, mainly that gets a diet of 28g #8's for clays, and whatever suits best if it's being used for hunting. This is not a great situation as compared to my sxs it weighs a ton and handles like a length of 2x4.

In the main, as long as you put the lead in the right place and are sensible with shot size, I don't think it matters all that much what cartridge you use.

I always use gamebore clear pigeon 30g 6's fibre wad they cycle well in my semi and are a nice quick clean cartridge. The price isn't too bad either for a fibre wad (i think i paid £30.50 for the last 250 i bought).
