coursing_lad 45
Hi , pups 3 weeks old , started to wean them onto chudleys puppy food ( soaked in boiling water) , took to it , but now dont seem intrested , and wont eat it , yet tried a wet commerical food ( pedigree puppy pouch) and they wolfed it down , would you percivere with the chudleys or just get food into them and use the pedigree , some are larger than others , but due to a litter of 12 i guess thats expected . salclalin 240
I think you should leave off the Chudley's until the pups are a lot older. I weaned my last Litter(5 yrs ago) on out of date Rice Pudding and Liver, pulverised in a Blender. It is a messy food but the Pups wolf it down. Also i would feed the smallest pups on their own. skycat 6,174
Feed the poor little buggers raw meat: AS NATURE INTENDED! Start with finely minced beef and chicken, with a little warm water poured on, so you get a sludgy mess they can slurp up: don't forget that pups of 3 weeks still have the mouth and tongue shape for suckling so they find eating, as such, a real chore. Always feed at body temperature (so it feels warm, not hot, to your fingers.) I HAVE NEVER had a pup refuse meat: should tell you something about what you should be feeding. Cereal is NOT NATURAL for a dog and a pup will get 10 times more nourishment from meat than it will from cereal. Mimic a wild bitch who would regurgitate her raw meat meal for the pups once back at the den. Simples!
Guest chook
Try soaking it in goats milk insted of water, at this stage in weening you should be adding a milk replacement first before water, as they get older, you can start to water the milk down - so eventualy they are off the milk all together, make sure its mashed up really well, or they will have problems swallowing it and try spliting the food between two dishes, as you going to end up with problems with some of the litter not getting enough food. Btw chuddleys is crap, get them off it and on to somt else, if you want to stay with dried (i know not everyone wants to feed raw) then try somt like skinners or csj. poacher3161 1,766
VERY GOOD ADVICE THAT SKYCAT HAS GAVE.But going on exspieriance stick with the packets of peddigree chum then mix the other in [bANNED TEXT] they are about 4 and a half week old and [bANNED TEXT] the time comes for them to go the new owners can easily obtain the food you have been feeding as not everybody has acsses to a good supply of raw food.As one of the most common problems with a new pup can be the sudden change in diet.atb
