IanB 0
Get her jabbed, who would use the pups I wouldn't have them if you don't have good owners lined up, plus I thought you were getting rid of the dogs because of the girlfriend??? Quote Link to post

Phil Lloyd 10,739
accidental mating - but my whippet x is well racey and is a very good working bitch , and the JRT X border lakeland is a very fast terrier , could pups be usefull? or am i better off getting her jabbed? regards Dale There are a few old time rabbiters that favour a small hedgerow dog over a lurcher. Indeed,.on some of our estates the keepers are dead set against anything that looks remotely lethal and do everything in their power to stop you fetching a running dog along. I've had a few wherriers and suchlike, and obviously,.they are limited in what they can undertake,..but they were useful in certain places. All the best with whatever decision you take,..regards,..CHALKWARREN.... Edited August 16, 2006 by CHALKWARREN Quote Link to post
woodga 170
wise words there from chalkie you would be better off having the dog jabbed if you still have the time this type of mating would not be acceptable to most lurcher lads so you may be stuck with them and have to cull them later on do it now and avoid this potential situation GOOD HUNTING ALL WOODGA  Quote Link to post
Guest Gregg Barrow
Few if any vets recommend the “mismate†shot anymore. If it’s important that the female remain in-tact, most vets will recommend a five to seven day series of prostaglandin shots. The bitch is usually kept at the vets for the complete series but, the University of Michigan has established a new, lower dose protocol that you can do at home. We ended an accidental breeding here, but the procedure was a shot every eight hours followed by a one mile walk to help minimize the nausea and cramps associated with the shot. It took the full seven days for her to abort the accidental litter, but she delivered a very nice litter of pups her next heat cycle. Something not always possible following the admin of a mismate shot. When you think about it, it was every eight hours for seven days……we didn’t get a lot of sleep that week, but she never suffered the side effects associated with the estrogen injections. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_pregn...ermination.html Interesting link that discusses some of the options.
