Hollow Points

Recommended Posts

Well!

went out this afternoon and it was bloody embarrasing! those pellets were all over the place, the other day i went out and only fired 5 and hit and killed some doves really cleanly. My first shot this after noon was on a dove and it dropped it like a stone ,and i thought these pellets are going to be wicked, but after i got to shoot a large amount of them i dont think i dropped any of the quarry i shot at and neither did my mate,i could see the pellets flying off too the side etc. So i decided to swap back to the accupells to see if it was the wind or if my gun had been knocked, my mate went back to his fx and i shot the accupells and we were back on track

so the Dynamic hollowpoints unless very close ,get a big fat NO. plus they go through my gun about as smoothly as sandpaper so i guess its back to the verminpells.

Dissapointing stuff!

Lets face it, at sub 12 ft/lbs shot placement is a lot more important then the illusive ghost that they call over penetration. Because at the end of the day a rat, pigeon, squirrel or what ever other small game we want to bag is going to have a shit day with a hole in the brain. If that pellet stays there or goes through the noggin does not really matter that much, because they can't think or live with either, hole or pellet in that spot. I for one will go with whatever my gun is most accurate with so that I know that the pellet ends up in the right spot. If it doesn't, I want to be the one to blame and not because my gun does what it want's to.

Another thing is: You sit there popping pigeons out of a close tree and you spot a bunny 30 odd yards down the field. Must be a crap moment not being able to take that shot, because you have the wrong pellet in the spout to do the job, because you don't know where that thing is going to end up.

knocking off doves and rats and ferals at the moment i am getting through my tin of accupells at a rate of knots. but i want to try out some of these vermin pells .

does anyone know of the cheapest place to get a couple of tins ie one of each accupell and vermin pell becuase i dont have any guns shops close to me (within about 15 miles)?? or is it a case of waiting for the weather to break and whipping off to the shops?

i dont want to be out of pellets because not shooting can drive you to polling or so ive heard ;)

cheers guys

I’ve never had a gun that could get on with bisley pest control! I’m currently using H&N hollow point and they seem to be ok. I’ve also used RWS super hollow points in the past and they were good  atb bedrock

hey all

I've got some shooting that is pretty close ranges and the trusty accupells are over penetrating,I have brought a pack of the dymanic hollow points and they are a big pellet length ways ,but also they feel a bit rough through my gun when pushing them in with the bolt, they dont fit as easy as the accupells. I took a magazines worth out of the dynamics yesterday and shot 5 doves one after the other at about 10 - 20 yards and killed them all with no sign of over penetration, these pellets hit hard which is what i'm looking for ,but i have heard that rws super hollow point are pretty good? never used them so i'm only going by what someone else says.some of the pellets look an interesting shape but you look at them and they are only in .177 which is annoying!

so whats your best hollow point? And i'm shooting an AAs410 so want a half decent pellet to put through it.

HP's are crap unless you're shooting at point blank range.

The expantioin's not an issue with a sub FAC airgun, so forget it. Not enough power to make it happen.

If you're only shooting at very close range, stick to a good flat-head, otherwise use whatever dome head shoots best out of your gun..

Cheers.

Edit to say... Wish I could spell expan.. expanti... expash.

F**k it, you know what I'm saying..................... Bloody Pubs!!

deformation is the word you are looking fore. Just chisel and stick.

I did some testing some time back and I'll stick my findings on this subject into a separate post to bury this thing once and for all. I am going to buy a video camera shortly and then I'll put some moving picture up with that post at a later date to show you what my ramblings are on about.

Give me half an hour or so and I'll have that thing up here.

Here is a test card I done this morning useing my trusty Daystate LR90 with H&Ns HP @ 40 yards 5 shots placed moderate wind in open level farm land, shooting point of aim to centre of target, drop is due to set for 35 yards, all 5 shots placed within thumb nail, please note I did wait for gaps in wind that was in front of my target to drop.

foxon.
