SportingShooter 0
Can anyone give me any tips on taking pictures of the spectacular Lightning that has been around in the last few weeks? My SLR is not the most advanced, but it does the job for me in every other aspect, but I can't figure this one out. Any help appreciated as ever, SS
SEAN3513 7
been trying this for years SS with not much success i guess you have to have a sixth sense, be in the right place at the right time.............and have lots of luck on your side. im sure some of the pro's must have some kind of gadget that tells them the amount of static build up......or somthing ?????????? a picture to be proud of if its ever acheived.....im sure good luck sean
ghillies 209
a radio active lightning rod helps.... try a google for that place in south america, it gets multiple strikes most days, cant think of it's name sorry but it's where everyone and his dog (or her dog) goes to study it. Guest Scuba1
Do you have a socket for a remote shutter release on your camera? Because if you do, you can get a photocell trigger for it, that is usualy used to operate the shutter at the detection of a flash but would work with lightning as well. Fidgety 8
I did it with my film EOS a long while back, I think you are meant to use mirror lock up or "bulb" fuction. Here you go..... http://www.weatherscapes.com/techniques.ph...;page=lightning
just jack 998
have you tried going out in a storm in the middle of a field with one of those big golfing brollies with the metal tip SS, and have someone on standby with the camera,

bullmastiff 615
Managed one in Koh Lanta a few years ago, drunk and giggling I kept shooting the old point and click camera everytime the lightning struck and somehow managed to get this! (looks more like a meteor strike than lightning strike though) Not what your after but only time I've ever tried! ATB Luke Edited July 30, 2009 by bullmastiff
