Malt 379
any serious suggestions..... If your not strong enough to set them, I wouldn't bother, you could seriously injure yourself trying. There is a certain knack to setting them, but it's hard to explain in words. name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Right thumb through ring with other fingers braced against plate, left thumb on bar and make a 'breaking bread' action to prize them appart. When full open place safety hook over the bar and put in place. When in place engage the trigger and release safety. I'd wear some thik gardening gloves and get use to opening the thing a few times before setting it properly. Goes without saying WATCH YOUR BLOODY FINGERS. EDITED to say if you have to let the thing go always snatch your left hand away (ie the one which doesn't have the thumb in the loop). Edited July 16, 2009 by Local Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
on the other bar which has know thumb hole i cannot reach the spring with my fingers. and it really puts a lot of pressure on my thumb when i put it through the thumbloop and pull down, hurts a bit. i might send them back and get the mk4 too and just use for them squizzers and rats as i'm sure i'll be able to open the mk4's. stubby 175
there was me trying to video it on my phone, and maltenby beats me too it as for setting it off, once locked in position, simply place your foot over trap and push ever so slightly, you'll feel the trap "go off" and your foot can be slowly raised allowing the jaws to close, without catching anything, ie fingers Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
right i have got the safety in place, now how do i engage the trigger as it is not staying in the notch. Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
right, im going to send back the mk6s and get the mk4s. the mk6s are simply to dangerous. Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
right, im going to send back the mk6s and get the mk4s. the mk6s are simply to dangerous. No they're not mate, just be patient and don't try and rush it - there is a knack to it. The mk4's will break your fingers just as easily. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
both mk4's and mk6's are tricky to set when you first get them, as stated, have patience and try going that little bit further each day with them, both traps have the safety catch, once thats in place they are as safe as houses, put your thumb on the brass trigger, push downwards, this will open the trap a little more, with another finger, although sometimes they come up on there own, the pressure plate can be put into the trigger, all this is done while the safety catch is still on, if your having no luck today, walk away, try again tomorrow, it'll will come to you, dont give up so easy I will add, try setting it on a hard surface(worktop) rather than the floor like the video, its alot easier, and once in the open position, it dont require loads of strength Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
sorry it already done. im getting some live cage traps as i can use the a lot more safely in publec areas. i'msending the mk6's back. i wanted to keep them as they will be useful for rabbits. its just i need 2 pepole to engage the safety catch whilst the other is holding the arms down. and my parents said they were too dangerous Edited July 16, 2009 by aaronpigeonplucker Quote Link to post

I think you have made the correct desicion by returning the MK6's if you are struggling with them that's when accidents happen! Good luck with the cages fella Andy Quote Link to post
