Lee85 44
Just wondering how many dirty magpies youv'e shot recently - This year? I've got 5 so far but not put my full concentration on them. I've decided now that the rabbits are going to be left alone for a bit and i'm going all out for magpies. After shooting 5 in my area there still seems to be LOADS, there really strong in numbers this year, anyone else found this? I cycle to work and its all I can hear Quote Link to post
foxon 0
Shot 15 Magpies last night over a store shed for one of the local dairy farms I contract to, during 1900 to 2015 hrs took a couple of Pigeon & 3 Jackdaws at the same time, they cause a real nuisance around the feed hoppers. Most Magpies I have shot was over fresh cut hay summer of 2006 35 in the bag useing a Daystate LR90 single shot with mod HAWKE 3x9x50 WA & Bipod. I earnt me money on that occasion. Foxon. foxon 0
15! thats some shooting there mate! Hi lee, we are upto our necks in Magpie & jackdaw in North Cornwall & every where else I should imagine, weather is poor here today but if it dries up later they will be out feeding hard, we normaly go out in groups & hit certain farms hard, for everyone I hit I'm sure 2 take it's place, many years ago I would have to use the Larsen to bring them in, but now there in such numbers they show no fear, the Government need to pick a Sunday in a month where all gun owners go out & hit the Magpies for day to bring the numbers down same with the Jackdaw, there is far too many of them & they are costing Farms & Estates a lot of money in damage, especialy Lambing time as the Magpies will pick the eyes out of healthy lambs, they have also taken my Chicks on numerous occasions when they are out from the Hen. Lee I think your on the money, I have never seen so many, I know the cost of SG shells have gone up & there are less shots going off in my area, but the increase is very noticeable I doubt global warming has anything to do with it, or could they be like in Alfred Hitchcocks The Birds, lets take cover I,m under gunned. Keep hitting em hard. Atb, foxon. Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Would have been three if the little feckers hadn't seen me and flew off! One looked at me and did a runner, litterally until it saw me follow it through the scop and then it pi55ed of skyward! Phantom Quote Link to post

Phantom You need to come down & shoot some Cornish Magpie, they will sit at the end of your muzzle. Weathers dried up hear & I am out on the Fox, but I bet I will bag a few Mags on the way. If your Magpies get spooked easily find an area they like bait it with table scraps or a live one you caught earlier & lay n wait, there getting brave, as for all carreon at the moment. Atb, foxon. foxon 0
around here there really clever and wary, hard to shoot Not so good haveing clever Mags, I went out on the Fox as there is abundance of them & the skies opened took cover under a disused milking shed & sure enough Magpies counted 6 shot 2 would gone for more but the wind is pushing rain into my scope like Niagra falls, slipped arse over tit makeing my way back over bank to write this, no damage to the rifle but a soggy leg & bum, I will hopefully get out & lamp fox tonight if weather changes, but it is amazeing how well Magpie light up in the lamp not that I shoot them of course.
