Just got in from shooting

Recommended Posts

Well my cosine has been down this week and i promised id take him out shooting some time. So this evening hen mother got home from helping her mates with the horses she dropped us off at the farm up the road.

I did what i normally do, walk up the lane drop my gun case on the gate and make my way around the fields. We started off at the gate and seen lots of little rabbits run around the tractors and machines, i didnt take a shot because i know i would risk damaging the machinery or injuring a rabbit, so i walked past them whilst they ran into the hedges.

We made our way up the field and seeing nothing in it, so we made our way down the hill where the gorse has been cleared, new to me, my cousin had pointed out the rabbits up against the brown grass but i didn't take a shot because i wasn't sure if it was a rabbit or a rock and again made my way past them.

Them my patience had been rewarded, a half grown rabbit hoped towards up and sat still while i raised the 20bore and gave him or her a dose of 7.5 28 gram lead which rolled him or her over, One in the bag.

Walking along the same hedge/rock wall i had seen a pair of fully grown rabbits playing in the grass, one stood up as i walked closer and then i took the opportunity to take a safe shot and bol him over with another 7.5 28 gram shot, Two in the bag.

The we came back to the gate we started off at and along the hedge row where i had not looked in the first place, were a mixture of little and big rabbits, as soon as i lifted my 20bore to take a shot most of them that would have been an ideal shot ran in so i took one more look around and spied a rabbit sitting tight in the green grass and swung the gun towards it, at that moment it took to it feet and ran for home, but me being me pulled of a good shot and rolled the sucker over, again with a 7.5 28 gram load. Three in the bag and that was the final one, I called mother to come and pick us up and we had a good chat on the way down the lane to sit and wait for our lift, Now the rabbits are gutted and hanging ouside waiting to be turned into tomorrows supper, I cant wait :bye:
