BellySlater 15
With an evening re-waxing my trusty barbour in front of me I got to thinking about shooting in bad weather. Are there any major do's and dont's ? What is the best way to dry out your rifle after a downpour and do any of you guys use a "rust inhibitor " (WD40 and the like) or is it just a rub down with an oily rag?. Never been shooting in the rain so would be interested in your views..... is there any quarry out and about in a storm ? Although my Barbour is a real trusted friend for fishing / beating and mooching I am begining to see that it is possibly not the best item of clothing for stalking / crawling and being quiet. I would be interested to hear if these "new fangled modern day" fabrics stand up to the job, I have had my Barbour over a decade and despite the odd leak (fine after waxing) it has never ripped or let me down (a little cold sometimes due to the 15 pints of sweat that can't go anywhere !! ) but apart from that ... a true friend ! stealthy1 3,964
If it rains, just find an evergreen tree and wait for the pigeons to arive Your gun should be ok if you dry it properly when you get in. Quote Link to post
Guest Scuba1
I have taken the action of my gun and sprayed the bits that I can't get to when assembled with chain grease, the stuff one uses for motor bikes, then but it back together. Now, when I am out in the rain, all I have to do is wipe the rest down with an oily rag and job done. as far as clothing goes. I don't mind getting wet. After all its only water. davyt63 1,845
hi BellySlater when I'm out and it starts raining, i chuck on my water proof poncho.it covers ever thing all my kit, well worth investing in one.only a fiver from army surplus store probably why it was only a fiver sorry! mike i also rub a oily rag over my rifle if it gets wet, then when i get home i take of the stock and give it a good rub all over with the rag.i have been out in all conditions, but you must define "storm" if your asking are there bunnies out when its raining then in my experience & my permission's then yes they will be out in it.hope this helps regards Davy Quote Link to post
