lgray88 4
hopefully in the next month i should be accquiring my new deer stalking rifle in 6.5x55 , but i was jsut wondering what everyone had been using ammunition wise. as i am limited too choice in shetland here , i will be reloading so a rough idea of what i should try out first would be handy bullet weights and manufacturer etc. i am also looking for a decent set S/H sights for the rifle preferably something in the 2nd focal plane with 3-12 mag. liam Quote Link to post

Ain't the Ramna Stacks wonderful? Ric Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
try the 129 grain sst bullet by hornady, it's an excellent bullet for deer and loaded with n160 should give you about 2800 fps. Quote Link to post

From a reloading point of view yes would agree with the above weight and certainly the N160. Dont be afraid to seat your bullet deeper than others will say. Have been reloading the 6.5 for 15+ years and also for 3 other stalkers in this calibre ( Sako and two Steyrs) One uses 129 SST and the rest of us 120 gr nosler BT - used mainly on red and roe. When we all get our acts together the rifles will shoot easily >1/2 MOA Before I reloaded I seem to remember using 140 gr Speer Hot-Cor soft points which did the job very well. Quote Link to post
jonher 0
I use VV N160 powder Lapua or Norma cases CCI #200 Large Rifle Primers Lapua Mega 155grain The lapua Mega is used over here on large birds, roe deer, red deer, reindeer and moose so it's a pretty decent allround hunting bullet! All the best. J Edited June 17, 2009 by jonher Quote Link to post
