Recommended Posts

Im in the process of find some .410 3" magnums with no.4 or no.5 shot, i know express do them as well as eley, but i'll be danmed if anyone stocks them.

If anyone has an idea or a shop willing to only me in a few boxes, could let me know. cheers.

Yeah, that said my local one is pants, saying that no one makes them in anything bigger than no.6, and then added if i wanted some winchesters i would have to buy 1000 at £17 odd quid a box of 25.

My .410 is pretty old, 1900 i think, so im guessing either full or 3/4 choke, When i was a kid (ok when i was more of a kid) i always used Winchester no.4 either 3" or 2 1/2 (cant remember) through it and they worked a treat, even shot driven stuff with a bolt action.

I have a box of express no.6 3" and i really really dont rate them at all (bad batch? - i dont know) the reason i say this is i had ago at a rabbit (young one at that) about 20yrds and the pattern was right on his noggin (pellets through his ears, chest, face, and fron leg...so right on the spot) and he still had enough go in him to crawl off under a bush, I got to him before he got to his warren but only after doing the barbwire fences like a frikking 110m hurdler.

I've only just got back into using my .410 due to my age and the law meaning i cant take my air rifle on my own but can a shotgun.

Oh yeah. my uncle had that done, before he gave it to me.

Does anyone know how much to start reloading these would be, only for a small amount, i've heard there are hand tools you can get rather than getting the press and all.

Cheaper to get a press! The Lee Load All II is available in .410 as far as I'm aware, I think my 12 bore one cost me £40? something like that.

Its worth buying a set of good scales to weigh each powder charge as the dies used to powder in the press are less than accurate. The shot weight can be weighed accurately as well in that case. My digital scales were about £25, the ones I use for Shotgun reloading anyway ;)

With the press you can de-prime, re-prime, re-size the brass, seat the wad and crimp the finished shell, so I'd say is worth it.

Lil' Gun powder would be one to start with.

I had some express .410 carts, 3inchers loaded with number 5's and i loved them, my local Gunshop just happened to have some in.....he hasn't had any since and all teh shops round here only stock .410 carts in 7's....6's if your lucky

Perhaps try one of the online order companies like just cartridges?

i might try and take the .410 out this week

I like larger shot too, i tend to use 5's in my 12gauge, and feel disappointed with teh choice for the .410

Those express are the one i'm after, but i'll be damned if my local will get some in for me , then had the cheek to tell me thats not what i want but rather i want 6s (miraculously what they had in stock) even after telling them that i exclusivly didnt want 6s, what ever happened to customer service.

I suppose the problem lies because i dont want to buy a load of them but rather 2 or 3 boxes (moneys tight untill i see how this interveiw for a butchers in a few weeks...fingers crossed)
