Its defo not a curlew, if its size of a chicken egg its not a woody. Iv never known cuckoo lay in pigeon nests. Could be owl or grebe or simply a chicken egg!!

 

no, definitely not a chicken egg. i know what they look like as i eat plenty of them

Its hard to tell from a photo as ther is nothing to refrernce its size against. As it is supposed to be the size of a chicken egg, there is only one species it can be that is an Owl.

Its a Tawny or Barn Owl egg. Tawny owls will lay in old crows nests if there are not suitable nest sites, or all available nest sites are taken.

I don't think so, they are almost perfectly round and not big enough either

 

The grebe's eggs are not quite eliptical - so they don't fit shape wise either

 

I still reckon it's a duck egg of some kind

im with you on that one,100% not an owls egg,besides the eggs are smaller than a chicken.id say it were a duck egg too.corvids will carry an egg/food for miles to a safe/quiet place to eat.

it could have picked somewhere quiter than a public footpath then. lol
