jigsaw 11,899
I was out last Wednesday picking up a few rabbits with the ferrets for a farmer friend and we were having a nice relaxed day.We being Taz my kelpie x and Samra the saluki pup.I did a few easy ground burrows as this was not going to turn into a serious ferreting trip.I picked up a pair in the first warren and a single in the next.Well on the 3 rd Samra was geting interested.Taz picked a 3/4 grown rabbit and retrieved it back.Samra walking along side mouthing the live and kicking rabbit.Next warren a 1/2 grown rabbit made a run for it,Taz ran it,made an attempt to pick it.The rabbit seeing it coming turned to the right and made a fatal error. It never counted on Samra......and nor did I.But like a good thing taking up the rear she scooped it up by the head.I was stunned.Samra is just reaching 6 months old and once she had the rabbit held Taz being a lady that she is ignored the fact that this upstart took her catch.I knelt down and called Samra and she trotted up to me with the very much alive rabbit.I took it from her and dispatched it.I was delighted. We picked a few more and then again a small rabbit made a run for it straight in Samras direction.Well her ears lifted and with instinct she took a few steps and picked up no.2.Well that was it for me,off home to end the day on a high note.I never expected her to even be aware of what was going on as it was her 2cd time out ferreting.Hopefully a sign of things to come Quote Link to post

jigsaw 11,899
Thanks people,I thought she was too young to start really.I brought her along just for the walk and to let her see and smell the future.Hunting lad I am ashamed to say I DONT KNOW how shes bred A good friend of mine gave her to me but I do know her parents have done a bit.I am promised this info very soon.I am not in a position to demand an answer as he so kindly gave her to me.ASHWOODVALE pm me and I'll chat with you.Im not looking for a world beater but a half decent dog that will try to do its utmost will be perfect. Now if it turns out to be any more than that and I'll be more than pleased. Hunting Lad 50
Ok no problem jig, she just looks suprisingly similar to my bitch pup and the same age. She looks the double of the sire aswell. If she is out the same litter they are well bred and wood1 off here bred them. Try and find out where the dog was bred mate if it was south yorkshire good chance its the same litter.
