Small splits on Lurchers pads

Recommended Posts

Noticed a few small splits on my pups pads this morning:

Nothing serious, but is there anything I should do to prevent them opening up any more?

I'm guessing keep him off hard surfaces, keep them clean etc.

Sorry if it seems like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but I'm inexperienced with lurchers, he's my first one! :D

Cheers.

Too much running on hard ground, especially if the pup is a heavy type. Also, make sure there's plenty of animal fat in his food: lamb, beef etc. Helps to keep skin well hydrated and supple.

You can get some stuff called Padsanol, or is it Padnasol (I'm a bit dyslexic at the moment! LOL) from the Greyhound megastore: brilliant for all small wounds/sores on feet and around nail beds.

I've just noticed he's nicked his stopper as well so that probably means he's been running on stony surfaces: avoid if you can as the jarring on hard ground will damage ligaments and tendons too: not cut them, just put undue strain on them: ditto: growing joints.

Aye, the bugger went nuts in a car park last night when we was out for a walk, that's probably what done it. :wallbash:

I'll have to keep him on the lead until we're through the car park from now on.

Thanks. ;)
