I once owned a bitch sired by Tweedle Dee, I got her for nothing due to a man I know buying 2 sisters and after a week decided that he couldn't cope :blink: , he bought a red merle and blue merle pup, I got the red one from him, she was 9 weeks at the time, although there was alot of hype about hancocks dogs and a lot of friends warned me off these type of lurcher, i still went ahead and took the dog (I like a challenge!!)

Most of you from the OLD smoochers site will remember the said dog, her name was Cass although I always referred to her as the "Merle bitch". It must be said though (and i'm not trying to promote Hancock's stock!!) she turned into a cracking bitch, did everything I asked of her, in the 3 seasons I had her she bagged hundreds, if not thousands of lamped rabbits, her best tally was 43 in one night (early season) alot of daytime ones too bolted from cover, she took the odd hare in the lamp, caught 4 daytime roe deer and also quite a large number of fox.

The "Merle bitch" was by far the best lamping dog that I have ever owned, most of you serious lampers will know what i mean when I say, we just Clicked! whilst out with her I knew what she was thinking and she knew what I wanted her to do before i told her, she was an absolute dream to watch and work with, it truly was an experience I have yet to find again with the lurcher I keep now - pedro is a cracking dog in his own right and, don't get me wrong it would be hard to find another like him, but we just lack the sort of bond that I had with the "Merle bitch".

Now I know there is alot of hype about Hancocks dogs and like I say i was warned of all this before I took the dog on, but the critics who warned me against this type of dog were amazed when they came out with us and watched us at work. One night I was also bringing on another dog, so a friend I had invited out with me was placed in charge of the "Merle bitch" whilst I took charge of the youngster. The lad got very stressed out with her for the silly things I would have anticipated from her, one example was he approached a fence with barbed wire on the top, where I would have been ready for the Merle bitch to jump over first and wait for me, he wasn't!! the bitch jumped over the fence and pulled him halfway across   He wasn't pleased, but he soon learned :D:D

For me this bitch was one in a million.

The bitch herself is now dead, she was 4 1/2, she was running a fox that had bolted some cover when she was run over!!

Like I said, I'm not trying to say that people should go get themselves a Hancock pup, I am against puppy farming all together, I honestly think I struck lucky with my bitch, I have heard many tales of how others have not been so fortunate with their's, I just thought I would share my experiences with my "Merle bitch"

(Sorry, I have loads of pictures of her and her bags, a good few action shots too at home but cannot post any due to me being on my works comp!!!)

how do you find 3/4 to train :D

i am not very good at training anyway but my dog learnt the basic things like sit ,lie and stay.i also never learnt her to jump but is starting to now, even so late in her career.so yes i would say they are easy to train but i also think it is the person training the dog which turns the dog into a good or bad dog.
