  1. Anyone recommend an LRF for around 100 POUNDS?
  2. Haha il have to give that a try...sounds like a lengthy process but justified by the end result!
  3. Cheers...chuffed with it...only problem is trying to leave the house to go there constantly without upsetting the other half
  4. No worries There are certain parts of the perm where the hedges lend themselves to stalking and make it easy to get within 50 yards but there is one section which is 600m long and has woodland onto an open field. The warrens are all along the frontage of the woodland so the only way to sneak up on them is to pre-position and wait...but that takes a long time and would result in very few population cutbacks over time. Somewhere else I shoot up north the rabbits spot you from the second you leave the house and are in....I have never experienced rabbits being more wary in different areas u
  5. Whoa! Why has this post been jumped on? Immediate assumptions about my lack of fieldcraft and a negative tone! I know where the warrens are and my fieldcraft is at a useful enough level. All I was trying to do was share a positive experience with everyone that I had with the use of an LRF. The fact I am applying for FAC is irrelevant. I want to try out other calibres and new rifles. I have been having success at the perm without the use of the LRF but its been 3's or 4s. It has definately convinced me to invest in one Cheers
  6. im not getting an FAC for air its for a 22LR and .17HMR as some areas have been overshot and the rabbits have clear fields of view for over 100m. Therefore requiring a longer range.
  7. Recently gained a new 300 acre permission which is incredible as I have been after land for a while now! What it means however is that I needed to up my game in terms of numbers of rabbit kills as opposed to shooting purely for pleasure. I recently applied for an FAC and have begun to lose faith in the sub12ft/ib air rifle due to their lack of range. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I employed a Laser Range Finder for the first time tonight and bagged 8 bunnies in about 4 hours of shooting which for me is quite good! I started the evenings shooting with an hour re-zeroing at e
  8. Conscious that asking for perms works/ appeals to no one! However, with limited time or local contacts I am throwing out this hook in the hopes that some willing and helpful soul in Herefordshire needs some assistance with pest control around the area or a shooting partner. Any useful contacts/ 'ins' would be much appreciated...not from Rake Aboot however! NB I am already knocking/ emailing/ speaking to people before that is mentioned. regards
  9. what is the difference between yours and this one: http://www.uttings.co.uk/p115344-hawke-laser-rangefinder-600-rf7600/#.VCACJvldXAY cheers
  10. Well just been out with the ultra again for the first time in a week and yet again my poi is off by about 3 feet left and a foot above ! I had to adjust the sights again by about 25-30 clicks. I'm baffled now as to what the issue is. Pressure is the same, pellets are from the same tin. Same fire position, same range. Same target. Unbelievably frustrating! Anyone have any ideas??
  11. I have a stoeger x20s in .22 as a first gun. Bought it second hand. It is accurate out to a max of about 30 yards but within that range groupings aren't very tight until about 25yards and below. It taught me some valuable field craft lessons as I have had to lie in ambush very close to runs and also I have had to stalk in very close with it so it has been useful in that respect. However if your after a serious pest control weapon I would steer clear. Kind regards
  12. Great. The shop I bought it from is at the opposite end of the country! Oh well.. Thanks
  13. Shot at my zero range with no issues this afternoon. However, I tested adjusting the AO at 30yards and any shift above the correct range shifted the POI right and any shift below moved it left. I think I need to get my judging distance bang on or it's going to significantly affect my accuracy...probably why I missed a rabbit from 20yards at dusk last night...hopefully Regards
  14. I emailed nikko sterling and their reply was "Sorry I dont understand whats your problem, Im Chinese" and that their spec is for 0.75inch movement over 37 yards so I'm not overly impressed with the customer service! I will be shooting at 30 yards again soon and checking if the zero has shifted. Regards
  15. This is the 10 shot group @ 30 yards with 4.52 which I am a lot happier with! Zeroing at 30 yards was a great suggestion as at 15 through 40 yards (my max range) there is very little variation- thanks Rez. Regards
  16. My groups were significantly better using the JSB Exact 5.52 over the 5.53...not entirely sure why this is the case but I am not complaining! I will re-check my zero tonight and tomorrow AM to see if it shifts again significantly. The more I think about it it can not be marksmanship entirely as it shifted 4 mil dots left from yesterday and that is not a minor change! Im leaning more toward JamesS410 explanation of the reticle sticking (more in hope) and hoping that tapping the turrets will mean my zero doesn't shift again! thanks again
  17. Hopefully the photo upload has worked. This is a 10 shot group @ 30 yards with JSB Exact 4.53 off of a bipod in the prone. As i already stated I have shot pigeon and rabbits already but I am not sure how this group compares in the world of hunting...i..e is it decent enough for me to be content with, or, with my rifle should i be getting much tighter groupings at that range? I will post the same pic with the 5.52 for comparison after i have fired a few through the barrel. On a tangent how does everyone clean the BSA Ultra barrel as I only have experience with cleaning weapons which ha
  18. Thanks for your swift replies. I'm off back into the garden to zero at a closer range. The groups i achieve with the JSB Exact are incredible even out to 50 yards so i just want to sort out the zero now! I think you could be right that i need to tap the turrets and also that it may be me as I fire from a bipod off of a shooting mat and I have potentially gotten lazy with my marksmanship since switching from Spring to PCP. I will update you when i figure it out. What has everyone found best in their BSA Ultra? 5.52 or 5.53? I know it is barrel specific but just interested. regards
  19. Hi all, I am a new member on here so thought i would post and introduce myself/ hopefully get some help! I started shooting a year ago after i was in physio for 6 months and could not train so i needed something to help keep me occupied. As with everything i became hooked and have been hunting since. My first rifle was a second hand Stoeger X20s which bagged me a decent amount of rabbits but forced me to stalk up to them to within 30 yards at the furthest and sometimes 15 yards as i could not shoot the thing accurately from any further! As the rest of the title suggests i recently
