Anyone bigging up a dog which is shite is only kidding themselves, and and anyone who believes them without seeing said dog work is more a fool........
Every dog has its faults and every man has their standards.......
No way of measuring world beater'ness......
So all you can do is either be happy with your dog or not.....
But there are some very very good dogs out there, which are worthy of being bummed up, but I think its 1000 times better to let the dog to do the talking...
Couldn't have said it better myself.

Ye ino what you meen gaz I'm lucky enough to have a lot of good ground at my front door so it's easier for me in that sense. I really like this thread I'm glad you put it up

What a reply. That's what I'm talking about. There are thousands of dogs that fail to reach they're potential for many reasons ..............be it poor diet , lack of training , lack of work and most of LACK OF THE RIGHT P.R
I've sat and listen to an old friend wax lyrical about the achievement of his dog one night. I didn't tell him at the time but waited until the listening crowd had subsided to tell him what I thought..............He looked me in the eye and believed his own lies . I never trusted a word he said after that . I'd spent hours and hours watching that dog and it was never capable of such feats.
The night he mentioned I was there so the number rung true but the amount of dogs didn't.
The point I'm making is that a few half truths a great dog is born and the legend begins
I may be going of tangent here but it's along the same lines as a thread last night that got me thinking about a coursing dog argument about to big names .............I sat back and looked at lads getting behind a dog they never saw run . I remember thinking how can you form a valid opinion on which is the better dog when you haven't seen one never mind both perform.
The major problem with running dogs and finding the best is there is no bench mark. No weather condition. field , rabbit is the same so how do you find the comparison . A dog doing a hundred rabbits a night can be no better than a dog that never see's that many
So does it boil down to which dog has the most Ambitious owner?
I agree. But don't we all have the same ambition and strive to get the most out of all are dogs? How can you expect to get the most out of them if you don't give them every chance possible.

I believe that any dog has the potential to be a good dog if your willing to put the time and effort in to get him/her to a standard which you are happy with. But good breeding does help and can make the difference between a good dog and a excellent dog. As long as your happy with how your dog works and it gets the job done who can call you on it.
Most off these people who call everyone else's dogs useless but there own are full of s**t you can't have perfect dogs all the time.

What ever your into..

I'm new to the lurcher world and was wundering why thers so much debate over the crosses does it matter were in the country you live for what kind of lurcher you have?
For example I live in the Cumbrian lake district and I have a grey x bull this is a fairly popular cross in my area. I would jus like to hear other peoples opinion.

I've hunted all my life with dogs mainly terrier work as that was my granddads favourite pass time next to fox hounds before the ban. Until recently I've just had border terriers for ground work and a springer x for a multi purpose dog and also a few sheepdogs for work on the family farm and they are how I make a living sheperding but I've recently got a grey x bull from a good working background and hopefully will be a fine asset to the hunting team.

Fishing in the sun with a few mates and birds and the dogs of course enjoying a few beers and BBQin the fresh catch. To bad we only get a couple days in the year we can do it.
Maybe that's why we enjoy it so much.
