  1. So I've managed to get the scope I've been looking for a while. A Schmidt and Bender 8x56 it has the 1" tube rather than the 30mm tube. Is there any noticeable difference between the 2 tube sizes in the use of the scope ie the image quality at low light etc.
  2. What sort of features do I need to be good at low light levels. Light with scopes 56mm works best but what's the ideal/usual mag and aperture for Binos???
  3. What sort of Binos should I be looking for stalking??? I don't want to brake the earth but want a pair that will do the job in low light levels.
  4. From what I've seen so far quick search that is they seem to standard of 1" or 30mm mounts for dovetails so will need to check what the howa base is
  5. Thanks for the assist big help to understand a few things.
  6. Thanks for the info I'll look into those sportsmatch mounts
  7. I can't find anywhere that seems to say compact p8?? They have p8s but no search brings up a compact version can you put a link to where you get your ones from please??
  8. Where's the best place to get the wildcats from?? The sports match scope mounts, are they good enough for a centre fire rifle?? For less than £20 they seem to be more for air rifles and rimfires.
  9. Yeah speaking with a friend of mine who is the one that's going to be taking me out stalking at least to start with, I've decided to look again at the rifles and what secondhand mods and scope I can get for the same sort of money in the end. So he's suggesting and I'm leaning more towards that way of thinking now is to get the rifle on its own, leaning more towards the howa 1500 for that and then looking to get a 8x56 Schmidt and Bender scope with a wildcat mod. Looking at prices around I'm looking at £550 for stainless steel howa. £350-£400 for scope and then£220 for wildcat predator 8 or £24
  10. Is that Dave mercer on this forum?? What sort of price do the mods come out at??
  11. I went and look at the 3 rifles and after looking at the 3 side by side and what they feel like and what they compare to one another in price etc. I feel the tikka t3 lite in a standard stainless barrel is going to be the one for me. As for the packages the tikka seems to come with a fair package as well. It comes with the mod sl5 I think, a Burris 3-12x56 scope and optilok mounts. Where the mod is I think the guy said was £200, the mounts £200 and the scope £600 and then the rifle is I think was £895 so overall a fair package and saving of £400 and I think it covers all the basics I need es
  12. I have Mark. Da12 area. I only have .22 closed so have to get written permission send it off before I'm allowed to shoot the land. if you have a closed condition, I.E words to the effect, the .22 rf rifle and sound moderator, shall be used for shooting ground game and vermin, over land deemed suitable by the chief constable for the area the land is situated, you do not need to send in permission slips before shooting, PROVIDING the land is passed for a .22 or above, and you have permission obviously.I think that's the thing with the closed license is that you do need to send in the permission
  13. What did you think of the tikka t3, was that the lite or a different one??
  14. What rifle and scope etc you using? I'm looking for ideas on my setup. Cheers
  15. I have one of the x20 and it's not a bad gun for the price and as you got given yours. Can't go wrong in my book.
  16. Just shows the difference in forces. I'll see what the ticket comes back with and will speak to BASC if I need to then.
  17. Yeah it goes down to experience when you don't have the land and I don't have enough so far even with paid days they say you can use the estate rifle.
  18. I hope this will be the case but it didn't sound it when I was speaking to the firearms officer.

  20. Hi. Looking forward to picking some people's brains on stuff and exchanging ideas and stories thanks.
  21. hi all, I put in for my variation to get a ,223 for foxes and the ,243 for fox and deer, The FLO came and did the usual bits with the license bits and said that the ,223 wasn't going to be a problem but the .243 might be as I haven't got land of my own that has deer on it, So I asked if I could have the ,243 with just fox to start and then add the deer when either I get land with deer on or I have more kills when I got on paid days or through a friend of mine that I go stalking with. Once he had spoken to my friend and he seemed to be more happy to give me the .243 with fox to start than
  22. Hi all, A little background, Joined the forum a few years ago now when i first got my Shotgun license and was looking to get my FAC and get into more rifle shooting, well then life happened and a child came along and buying a house with the MRS meant I had no time for shooting, but now the little one is at nursery and I'm free to get out a bit more now. So I have my FAC for ,22rf and just applied for a variation to get a ,223 and ,243 as the farm I have has foxes and more than that the shoot I beat on during the season needs someone for pest control and so will be doing that as well. So loo
