  1. My thoughts exactly mate, bugger what others think, if the dog does what its bred to do and your happy with it then what other people think is irrelevant. Gotta love the little JRT's
  2. I use Winchester HVHP Xpert 36gr. They do the job very nicely.
  3. Went out for a morning hunt on my own yesterday. I got a call from a local property owner the night before telling me that the rabbits were back and in big numbers. I said no worries I will come up in the morning and suss out the situation. I called the property owner next door and told him I was coming up and asked if it was ok to go onto his place as well while I was there, sure he said no worries anytime. I got left home at 7 and was out in the paddocks at 7.30. I sat over 2 large warrens that had been cleared of blackberries the previous week so sniping the rabbits was a lot easier th
  4. The little HMR pill is VERY unlikely to ricochet, with the speed it moves at it pretty much disintegrates once it hits anything. You will find that a .22LR either HVHP or subsonics are more likely to ricochet than the pill from the HMR.
  5. Nice shooting mate, bunnies are in some strife if they poke their heads out of their warren at 200.
  6. I love seeing other peoples working dogs 'its fantastic to see a dog out in the field doing what it's bred for. But im not a fan of looking at beat up and bloody terriers 'any dogs for that matter. Also gory photos of blown apart animals are terrible 'none of it does your sport any favors either. It's just more ammo for the media and ANTI hunting or animal welfare groups to use against you. Its the same out here.
  7. You reckon?...................... Looks dead to me! 'I suppose it was in better condition about 5 minutes before that photo was taken haha.
  8. Yeah thats always a risk when you put your ferrets down warrens over here. We have been lucky so far and have never lost one (Touch Wood). We have had ferrets not come out and we have gone back the next day and found them waiting for us at the entrance of the warren. We lost 1 ferret for an entire week a few years back 'dad went and got him back on the 6th day by putting a big polecat buck into the warren and it dragged the other ferret out by the scruff of it's neck. So we have been very lucky indeed.
  9. Yeah plenty of stuff over here was brought here by lot haha 'the foxes are the the same European Red Foxes you have in the UK 'only difference is over here they are a pest that kill small native wildlife as well as farmers sheep and poultry. He thinks you refer to the stock on his shotgun , you are refering to the vegitation , get a grip boys lol I wouldn't have a clue about the vegetation 'I know we have a lot of different varieties of trees and other plants that are from the UK 'Pine trees 'cedar trees ect. The Shotgun is from Liege Belgium 'its an oldie but a
  10. Ha ha. Foxed me. I'm guessing you're either visiting the UK or don't live in Aus anymore. No mate 'still here in Aus whys that...? Well if it was an English wood then you must have either moved back or been visiting, unless of course you have some secret time portal in the woods - this side Aus that side Pommy land... I dont think I follow what your saying mate..?

  12. Cheers mate 'Yeah it was an old vixen 'she was in better health before she was hit with BBs It should look English 'thats where it came from
  13. Dad and I went out for a bit of ferreting yesterday 'we only wanted to give a first time worker a run and see if he could bolt a couple of bunnies. We worked him with another more experienced ferret to show him the ropes. He did alright but stayed underground for 40 minutes on the first warren 'much to our displeasure. The next warren we did was only a couple of holes 'we bolted a pair one of which managed to get out of the net 'the other was not as lucky. I also took one of my JRT's out for a run. It was her first time out in the field 'she is 7 years old and was great 'she found a fox curled
  14. Well there is no shortage of foxes over here. Im not sure what the process is for someone coming from overseas to be able to hunt here though.Surely he just needs an invite..... If only it was that easy 'the amount of rules and regulations us citizens have to jump through to get a license is bad enough. Im not aware of any short term firearm license or hunting license that can be issued to people coming from overseas though.

  16. Sounds ridiculous 'how would they police that...?. Im guessing it was the Animal welfare and green groups that forced the changes to your laws in 2005..?
  17. this kid could be second or third generation british, so born and bred there.. not indigenous but still British , and most likely thinks like British.. My Granddad on mums side was born in Liverpool came to Aus after WWII 'and My Grandpa on my dads side was born here but is of Irish decent.
  18. Id like to see the young Muslims in your country try and be conscripted into the British armed forces 'It simply wouldn't happen as they would kick up a stink over it IMHO. Hence why it would be a failure and will not go through into legislation. You cant say yay or nay to different people based on their nationality or claimed religious beliefs. Just me 2 cents.
  19. Stuff that tell em to bugger off 'it's your property and you decide who comes onto it and why. I had the local council try that with me a few months back 'She said that they wanted to see the ferrets and their living conditions (Which are pristine) I told her nicely the first time that now is an inconvenient time and that she could not come in 'when she said she had the so called 'Right' to enter my property I lost it and gave her a piece of my mind. I haven't heard back from them since and that was about 5 months ago. Good on you for standing your ground 'too many people would just let them w
  20. Cheers for the kind words fellas 'can someone give me the rundown on the rules and regulations regarding fox hunting over there in the UK. I know you cant use the hounds to kill a fox on the tradition English fox hunts anymore (Which is a dam shame) 'but what are the rules regarding using terriers and lurchers over there are you still allowed to use them on foxes..?
  21. Some rifles might be the cause of the problem I think. My CZ 452 in blued walnut has never had a problem with Hornady 'not one split case 'hang fire 'dud round or projectile getting stuck in the throat since using Hornady. I know of at least 10 other people that also had the same problem when using Federal. Since switching to Hornady no problems at all. We got told a bad batch of ammo was going around with federal at the time so everyone pretty much changed to Hornady. I also get better accuracy using Hornady so it worked out well. I thought all the .17HMR ammo was all made in the same
  22. I had the same problem with my HMR when I used a box of Federal. Cracked necks on the cases 'hang fires 'dud rounds 'and then one round that sounded funny when I shot at a fox 'I ejected the case and tried to cycle another round but was unable to push the bolt forward all the way 'I pulled the bolt out looked down the barrel and could not see out the other side. I knew it was the pill straight away. I just gently pushed the cleaning rod from the muzzle end down the barrel and tapped the projectile out. Closer examination of the case revealed that the powder was all molded together 'which makes
  23. Gday fellas well we have plenty of foxes here in Australia (Thanks to you) so I thought I would do a thread with some photos of some foxes that I have shot this year. I hunt foxes when the weather starts to cools down 'usually from April (start of Spring) through winter and to the end of September is what I call my Fox hunting season. There is no hunting season for foxes over here of course because they are an introduced feral pest that kill our small native mammals 'birds and reptiles 'not to mention the untold damage they do to farmers livestock. Currently here in Victoria a $10 bounty can b
