How To Reduce Spring Length!!!
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thanks guys, Still mixed opinions though in theory I can see how heat treating one end would disrupt the tensile strength of the steel resulting in a weaker composition, but on the other hand people who have done it this way have never experienced any unwanted affects. When I shortened the previous spring in my hw35 it was amazing until it broke, interestingly the broke occurred 6 coils in from the weihrauch end :/ so I am confused ATB Nathan -
How To Reduce Spring Length!!!
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thanks Barrywhite, what do you think about the collapsing process and is it needed at all? Some say not, but others swear by it. I have recently bought a Titan xs for my hw35 and I'm worried I will encounter piston slam due to the 35mm stroke compared to the hw80 with a much larger 80mm stroke. The reason I bought the Titan is because out of all the reviews the vast majority would recommend them and I have a hft comp in April so it needs sorting ATB Nathan -
Good evening people, I would just like to ask everyone, what is the correct way to reduce the length of a mainspring, In the past I have started by using a dremel to remove the coils then using a blowtorch collapse the last coil before quenching in oil and finish. This is how I shortened my last spring but after about 50 shots it snapped, maybe just bad luck but it may have been caused by the heat from the blowtorch interrupting the molecular structure of the steel. On the other hand many people including davyt63 use the same method as me and he didn't seem to experience any unwanted cons

Hey guys, I was wondering whether there is anyone in Tyne and Wear with a chronograph that I can run my hw35 over I am worried it is over powered. Any help appreciated. ATB Nathan

Using A Very Very Short Spring
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hi tron, Thanks for your reply, To increase sweep length there is a huge amount of complex work that would need to be done which includes reducing piston sear length and increasing the cocking lever length. You could be right about the recoil and it may be the best idea to buy a new spring. ATB Nathan -

Using A Very Very Short Spring
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Good evening Barrywhite, This may be why the spring snapped after resizing. What is your opinion on installing an exceptionally short spring (16 coils)? And making up the lost space with steel capped with nylon. Could it produce a more efficient cycle do you think? ATB Nathan -
Using A Very Very Short Spring
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in General Airgun Discussion
That's interesting about the piston and yeah when i first got the rifle it was majorly oversprung so I removed around 5 coils, collapsed them using a blowtorch and quenched it in oil. I then refinished the spring until it matched the weihrauch end. I might start totally experimenting to see exactly what can be achieved -
Using A Very Very Short Spring
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Yeah it was chronod and was 9.8 before the break, I would love to get it into the 11's and also keep the low recoil but due to the 35mm stoke length it's proving to be very difficult -
Using A Very Very Short Spring
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I know moxy your right, in theory it should work it just means the duration and distance of spring travel is reduced so it would produce a more responsive stroke if you know what I mean -
Hey guys, As many already know I have recently bust a mainspring in my hw35. The break is closer to one end and around 6 coils has detached. I noticed that the spring was extremely stiff and I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if I re-finished the snapped end and used nylon spacers in the place of the detached coils and placed it back in. I am experienced at airgun repairs but sometimes curiosity takes over I thought it could produce a more efficient stroke due to the less coil resonance as it releases its energy. I dunno might just be being silly any comments welcome guys as lo

Afternoon fellow shooters, As many of you already know I have spent the last 2 month painstakingly restoring and tuning my hw35, I have been extremely pleased with how the gun has been shooting, the rekord trigger has been deburred and polished and is as smooth as butter, the recoil is practically gone and the power was great. Feeling good I decided to take her out and christen her on some fluffy tails, so after a couple of hours of nothing I eventually came across a rabbit, he was sitting at around 55 yards so I performed some sas stalking and got within 25 yards (at that distance my hw97

Cheers guys, and you are certainly giving away your age secretagentmole haha, although its fitted to a springer my stability and accuracy has doubled so I am very pleased with it

Hey guys, Just thought i would post a quick one of the hamster I have made for my hw35 it greatly improves my accuracy and can't wait to use it in April Cheers guys ATB Nathan

Can Anyone Make Spring Guides
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Cheers lads, I heard that sometimes the ones you get in the ultra kit from chambers can be loose inside the spring, I think I will give it a go though and see what happens ATB Nathan -
Hey guys, After a very frustrating few weeks with my refurbished hw35, I decided to strip it down again for the millionth time and fine tune it I started with making 2 nylon washers, one to be threaded onto the spring guide and one to be in the piston, this took hours as I made sure they were an absolute perfect fit, I also got some 0.5mm aluminium and made a piston sleeve, I then cut 5 coils from the spring and spent about 2 hours finishing the end so it sits really nice, after that I give a general Relube and lastly I dismantled the rekord trigger and give it a deburr and polish so it i

Cheers Nate, it did seem to have loads of pre load in it, I had to put my entire body weight on it to get it back in so you could be right [BANNED TEXT]

Accuracy Help!!!!
Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Thanks for you reply mate, I have had it over the chrono and ATM it's sitting at 10.2 there is however deiseling do you think this is due to over greasing? -
Hey guys just a quick one, How can I drastically reduce the recoil of my hw35, it has far too much!!
-
Good afternoon people, After spending weeks on the restoration of my hw35s I have began to zero my scopes only to find that there is major problems with accuracy. There also seems to be way way much recoil! So much so that the hinge pin starts to loosen up. If I was to cut a few coils off the spring could that reduce recoil, I know there was a lot of preload when getting it back in. If this won't work can anyone suggest something that might cure it. Thanks guys and ATB Nathan.

Nathan1991 replied to Nathan1991's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Oryt mate, I have worked relentlessly on it for a couple of weeks here is what I have done up until now; 1- full strip down and total degrease 2- deburred the entire thing (using needle files) 3- piston/cylinder polishing 4- buttoned the Piston with delrin Bands 5- converted the piston seal from leather to ptfe and a full re-grease (bisley moly) 6- removed all of the rust, pitting and bluing 7- reblued the metal work (hot) 8- straightened the barrel 9- repaired the stock (this took ages) 10- re-stained the stock (dark oak) 11- had it French polished And that it unti -
