  2. Yeah I've fallen into the trap of going a bit soft and second guessing myself, but can't afford to be like that. I think it's reasonable money by today's standards although I've never paid more than £120 for dog. First mutt cost me a fiver. I have to admit I have crosses I have more confidence in others but I had a litter for myself and both parents do more than I want so chances are the pups will be somewhere near for me at least. Went as a guest on a shoot once and an auld fella had a bull x greyhound flushing and retrieving with manners like a lord while people were giving their labs n spaniels slaps for arguing over who's pheasant it was. Pointless story but convinced me there was more possible than you first think, just like how my dog will murder a pigeon but bring my chickens back from across fields without a scratch on them.

  3. Being truthful I have to say that I can't guarantee any of this. Apparently the Dam has been bred down from Saluki x Greyhound type down into a more Whippety type with supposedly terrier in there at some point. Sire again supposedly has bull a few generations ago with collie x Greyhound and beddy x whippet. The truth for me is they're both smooth coated, slim nosed and under 22". Dam is good during the day still maturing with the fun of working at night and Sire is always complimented on temperament and ability, he's a smashing dog quick and obedient. Does everything from ratting and rabbiting to rounding up my chickens and livestock all the way to going full Jeffrey Dahmer on anything else that's in his crosshairs. Got one bitch left and one bitch has interest. They're aren't lurchers as I remember as a kid but for the quarry of these days I'd back them all day.

Thanks Chaff 👍 bred them for me but didn't realise I'd have trouble selling where I live now. Still feel guilty asking 400 but went to the vets for their chips etc. Without checking how much. So like the stupid mug I am these days I got slapped with a 500 quid bill for a vet to cuddle me pups and stick them.

  5. I'm not speculating but we had most of our dogs sheeting all over the place for 5 days and my Dad's dogs vomiting all over for 3 or 4 days at the same time a bunch of us came down with illness and half of us tested positive. Makes you think

  6. Normally I wouldn't mind the travel it's just me temporary circumstances make it a bit awkward at the mo I would say I was more hoping to just not waste people's time saying I've got one in Cornwall. I don't have Facebook so I'd have to get someone else to look. I guess I was hoping someone on here might give me another option to a bull greyhound because locally that usually with saluki as well is all that seems to be around but I've found the joy in the smaller lurchers

  7. Evening men, I don't suppose anyone could help me out with finding a lurcher bitch pup. Am North East England looking for something within a couple of weeks but not fancying travelling miles and miles. I have the option of one to fall back expected to be 24" tts but to be honest was after a one 21" or under to go with my current dog that does a bit everything for me odd lamping mooching ratting on all terrain. Not too picky in breeding more will it do the job but probably more interesting in a little bull x or terrier x rather than a pure runner. I don't want to waste anyones time and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Pm me if preffered

    Thanks

I bought a hultafors knife recently and its up there with stanley ,its easy to change the blade (you can unscrew the wheel by hand) inside the knife is a blade holder full of blades ready and the blades that come with it are insanely sharp

They look handy I might give one a try. I find a non-retractable invaluable at times as long as your careful and don't stick it in your leg.

  9. A set of Stanley Tylon is probably the best value for money and they are good tapes. Milwaukee is the dogs dangles at the minute, but you do pay for it. 100% keep that Stanley knife even if you decide to take it apart and repaint it. I struggle to find a Stanley knife worth having these as there's too much safety going on between non-locking and self-retracting I find them a waste of time compared to a proper one.

  10. We do similar on our place, giving all sorts a try and learning as we going. Are you using the pigs and sheep to work the land for you or are they fattening up for the butcher? I have a history with all livestock but growing stuff I just can't find time to learn it. The missus sells fertilised hatching eggs off the chickens which makes a few quid more than eating eggs if you can find a customer base. People go daft for them now since all the covid stuff.

  12. Hi lads I know I'm no regular contributer on this forum so don't necessarily expect much but I'll try anyway. Anyone know of any litters coming up in the North East at reasonable money, after 1 or 2 ratting and mooching Jack Russells to bring on with my other dogs but can't seem to find any with reliable working blood for normal money. Everything is at designer dog prices nowadays even the unproven lurchers fetch crazy numbers. Any help would be appreciated but I know many are in the same boats

    Cheers Scott

  13. Wondering if anyone can clarify transport from Northern Ireland to England, we are looking at a couple of pups and wondering where you stand with rabies etc, I keep seeing that you should have it all in order but then contacted a ferry provider in Scotland and they said it was not a requirement and now I'm confused. Just need clarification

  14. Thanks for all the constructive comments ? like I say it's never been too much of an issue because I just knew they weren't around them but my new dogs coming through are gonna be with me in and out feeding the horses/donkeys, mucking round etc virtually 8 hours a day mixing with various stuff so I'll keep a long lead on for a good while and keep the recall as I always would. I just know my Jack Russell's never understood that bigger animals were dangerous ? well I'm glad anyway because I'm settled on patterdales... Anything smaller than them they can rag to bits.

  15. I'm very much considering patterdales as my next foray into dogs but still considering my options, I've had Jack Russell's in the past but never bothered introducing them to other animals as it wasn't an issue. Just after some experience from you guys as to whats possible and what to expect both off lead and on lead with daily exposure as I live with my animals.

Hoping to be able to avoid a horse/donkey stampede trampling sheep and my latest puppy getting disembowelled by a goat.
