  1. I always got told that you can go rabbiting when theres an r in the month and that rabbits breed when the warmer weather come in and its been freezing for th last few month so i must be misinformed. What actually is the rabbiting season then?
  2. I was just hoping for the snow to stop for an hour just to get on some local fields.
  3. Does anyone work there dogs on the lamp in this dreaded snow? I was really looking forward to lamping tonight dont know if its worth bothering. Just wondered of sny good/bad days people have had when its like this
  4. Surely whoever bred that litter must have helped the little sire out to get on her. Honestly the pups are worth a look i was gob smacked. Cute little pups but only as handbag dogs.
  5. Just been nosy looking on pets 4 homes and honestly theres a litter of colly greyhound x chihuahua. They want 150 quid a pup and it says they could make good working dogs. They are aparently accidentally bred. Is it possible for such a short sire to get over a dam so big? I cant i Agine how its possible.
  6. Sorry i dont want people to think im trying to scrimp and save money on my dogs behalf cos id never see him suffer for a few quid. He seems okay at the minute and he is no longer passing anything. And if he was with loads of blood in it hed be straight to the vets. I personaly think its worms but i wormed him a month ago if that :s what is parvo and the symptoms?
  7. Cheers for the comments i havnt seen the mess it was my grandad who keeps the dog for me. But he says it was slimy with bits of red blood in it. Its the same symptoms as when i first bought him off the breeder. He must not have been wormed properly and the he had severe worms tge mess he produced then was the same i think. But since iv got in i ge hasnt passed anything so until he passes anything i dont know weather to worm him at the vets first thing in the morning :/
  8. My lurchers pooing out a red gooey mess, hes really quiet and and is off food and water. Hes wormed regular but does anyone reckon it could still be that?
  9. Im just feeding it podered baby milk and it seems to be okay iv tried the thing with the scruff of her neck and she see, s fine, I thinknim just comparing her to my lurcher and lab that drunk loads. There obviously must be enough moisture in her food
  10. Isure shes fine its only that I havnt seen her take one drink. Il just try keep her on soaked biscuits that must be enough
  11. I have a jack russel that doesnt seem to drink a lot of fluid iv tried powdered puppy milk and biscuits but shes not bothered. She eats rice pudding meat and dry biscuits, does anyone have an idea how to get some fuid down her? Thanks.
  12. Do you reckon a greyhound with maybe a quarter whippet would make a differance to them been so accident prone if they were more agile? I have a little kelpie cross at the minute and he was easy to train but no world beater. As long as i can train the dog to my recall and there sociable id be pleased. I couldnt cope with an unsociable dog.
  13. The only reason i think is id like to try a pure greyhound as a place to start. See how it works and when i get to a position were i would want another dog i might have an idea more about differant breeds and what would be best to put to the greyhound. Maybe even anothe greyhound if i still like the breed as it is. They are about the size i would want to be honest and temprement id like i just dont really know mich about there working ability but over the years tey were used with salukis for hare so they must have a good work ethic and be able to do bunnies.
  14. I have been considering a greyhound deerhound cross but i fancy a pure dog that i can then if its any good start breeding my own lurchers or longdogs from in years to come. I do prefer deerhounds but there far too big for any work i have.
  15. I have one dog at the minute thats just started to work and im looking at a second dog to keep him company and share the work. I want somthing big but dont fancy a bull cross. Iv seen a lot about greyhounds being fragile but surely they must be stronger boned than a whippet and slightly thicker fur an they make a big majority of cross's. Whats peoples thoughts on them? Or even pictures would be helpful if anyone runs one.
  16. This posts brilliany but should be changed to "how to look a moron and make enemys the simple way"
  17. is there any one on here that actually works a pure greyhound in general that they have reared from a pup?
  18. That's what I was worried about he's only had the odd rabbit because there's very few about I might hang on untill he's had a good number of rabbits first then he might know the differance
  19. It just sounds a good idea for me the more work and time I can spend with the dog the better he loves killing squirrels so a rats no problem. I'm going to ask about this weekend, the dogs injured at the minute so perfect time to seek some permision.
  20. i wasnt sure it was possible but iv been watching various ratting videos on the enternet and theres always a lurcher having a go. the rabbiting around me is very scarce and i have had ratting permission before with air rifles and i could get more very easily. id love to get the dog out more working so i was wanting to know if there was any pros or cons to it? or even better if any one on her does any some pics of the work or even there dogs.
  21. My dogs just cut his pad on his paw. We have given him some arnica, put ante septic healing liquid on it that's worked really well on his last cut to his stomach, we have then bandaged it. But I'm really worried with it been his pad it's going to bust open do these sort of cuts usually need vet attention or does any one on here have experience with this ?
  22. Iv been trying upload pictures off my iPhone onto the computer it's just not happening for me.
  23. I saw your dog on another thread earlier it's a brilliant picture.
  24. I have a ten month old kelpie cross and is a very mature dog and extremely game dog. Im new to this sport but id say compared to all the other dogs kept by mates mine really does seem to be easier to handle just extremely hard to keep it away from hunting squirels and bushing rabbits. he was bred out of dave slieghts dogs. if u ask around on here im sure someone can put you in touch with him hes probably going to be a very reliable source of information.
