the only sub 12 pcp I own is the cheapest one ive ever bought and its as accurate as the most expensive sub12 ive owned!
and the only fac air riffle I own is one of the most expensive out there.. is it worth the money??
im not sure but its been the most dependable and hits the mark consistently and spends most of its life getting bounced round the car boot getting bashed against gates and it
holds zero all the time.. still think it looks like crap but ill be keeping the impact
What is the cheapest one Si?

The rfd I bought the Tikka from advised me that whilst they have stock of the Wave mods, they were going back as the build quality was not so good and some returned to them in bits as they were not up to the job. I obviously didn't buy it although this was .22lr and .17hmr where the issues had happened. Sub 12 is of course a different matter but I can only repeat what I was advised with no actual experience of them.

I’ve looked into this, apparently short barrelled hmr’s are the main culprits for this. I use an lei dedicated hmr mod on mine so no problems in that respect. The wave should be ok for air rifles though as they seem ok for .22rf.

Yes, good kit billy. I see you’ve got a dovetail converter on the rapid, Ive been thinking about getting one myself, but the threads are buggered on the front ring mounting hole in the block. Needs drilling out and re-tapping and I’ve got enough projects atm. As it is, it’s been holding with araldite for about ten years now, so I don’t think it’s going anywhere. Enjoy your new pard fella

Is any pro sport worth £600+ Timmy
For most of us who are not lucky enough to get fac
air is all we have and we are stuck with it
or give the sport up .
its like when you buy a car there is all ways a one a few cars down you would love to have but just cant push the wonga to get it or any thing come to that all ways some thing better .
So for the lads that cant get fac all we are stuck with is air and is it wrong for us to want the best Timmy
and if there pop guns WOULD YOU STAND IN FRONT OF ONE
iv been on the receiving end of one and 3 and a half hours in an op
so i CAN say there defo not pop guns lol
I totally agree with you on price mind they take our hands off and come back for our eyes
like you say you can buy a bullet gun for less than an air rifle .
Air rifles have come a long way from when i was a lad you would be lucky to get a rifle to shoot past 30yrds at one time
then the air sporters and the like hit the air gun world and that was the start now
with the rifles we have to day a sub 12 rifle can shoot out to 100yrd with ease and still retain the hitting power to kill.
There not glorify,d toys any more
atvbjimmy
If you’re limited to 12ft lb that’s it. Nothing wrong with that, and spend as much as you like. When you’re not, it’s easy to think, “well, for that money I could buy ‘x’y’z that can shoot 1000 yards etc”. Everybody’s different and it’d be a boring world otherwise . I love the crown, preferably synthetic, and I’m fairly certain that I’m going to buy one, it’ll be fac mind. I’ve got plenty of sub twelve guns myself, and if I added them all up including scopes, custom stocks, accessories etc, ahh, don’t even want to think about it.

Well I'm going to sling shit in the pile.
Seriously, is any sub 12 worth that kind of money?
We're talking about popguns, little more than toys, more expensive than a decent FAC rifle. They might be pretty, look lovely and be technically brilliant but they are lower power than a bloody catapult, sorry to burst anyones bubbles but even the most expensive sub 12 has got less power than a nailgun or a powered stapler.
You aren’t paying for the power output for sure, and as you say, a catapult can easily produce more energy. However, they have their place in the shooting world. As to whether they’re good value for money is up to the individual. I personally wouldn’t pay over a grand for a 12ft lb air rifle, but that’s just me.

I have a Well used Miroku 800 that did it. A few slight taps with a hammer cured it.
But you go to remember Ian, not everybody is as technically minded as you

When we only had .22’s we used to head shoot them. A pal of mine shot one at about 120 yards. It sat and yawned, the bullet went in it’s mouth, and out the back of its head. Stone dead.

All I can say is, that I’ve used one on rimfire for quite a few years now, had a few thousand rounds through with no problems. Maybe the new one’s aren’t so good? I have noticed that the ones on sale now have a smaller diameter section at the rear where they screw onto the barrel. Mine doesn’t have that, so maybe a different design?
Edit to say, I can’t see them being any more flimsy inside than the HW? Even if they aren’t as good as they used to be? Obviously I don’t know this for a fact though, just think it’s unlikely. Looking at the HW, I think a rimfire would have its guts out in no time.

Laminate doesn’t do it for me anyway, I’ll save my black pepper for the dinner table. Love the crown synthetic though, and if they were both the same price, I’d still have the synthetic stock over laminate, just my opinion .

Well I don’t know if anybody is interested, but I’ve just tried three different mods on the hw100, Atec Wave, LEI .17 and the HW. I couldn’t really tell any discernible difference, but as the wave is around 2 inches shorter than the HW, I think I’ll stick with that. Anyway, I decided to open up the HW mod and have a look inside. I was surprised at the cheapness of materials used as a baffle system on a mod that they charge fifty odd quid for (the wave is just over £30). A few bits of plastic tube, paper thin washers and some felt. It works, but no wonder it says only for air guns on the moderator. The LEI is much smaller, and dedicated.17, also £130 odd quid, but just as quiet, which surprised me really. I didn’t expect it to work so well on an air rifle. Anybody tried other mods for comparison? Out of the three I tried, as an aftermarket purchase I’d recommend the Atec wave, excellent for the money, lightweight, and a fair bit shorter and quite a bit cheaper than the HW, which is supposed to be the airgun moderator that others are to be judged by?

Good result SD. The 35 grain accutip are ok, good in fact, but their rimfire .22’s aren’t the best for sure

Noticed a wood of mine bursting with squirrels yesterday so went back today with my 99.
Took a photo of eight but went on to get 23.
I used a mixed bunch of pellets I got recently from a shop. Separated the shot, 17&22 pellets weeks ago but as I knew ranges were going to be low I just grabbed a hand full.
On the way back I had a major plink, think I shot 200 pellets today and I was knackered, that's a lot of cocking!
Any way it was good to be out with an air rifle again.
Next to no pellets passed through and bisley pest control give no expansion at sub 12. Some rws pointed seemed to really whollop them and the hobbies the same. Bizzy mags knock the wind out of them but domes seemed to do very little as the cheap twin ringed pointed things.
Gotta say I love the 99. It's shoots most pellets with acceptable hunting accuracy except the real cheap ammo.
SD.
I reckon I spied a .177 marksman in amongst that .22 mix SD. I must be bored

They’re shite. The last Remington.22’s I was offered were cyclones at £2:35 box/50. I declined.
used to use the reduced velocity c bees though, 33 grain/40 ft lb hollow points, shot some rats with those on an old embankment that was, and still is infested. They were cheap as well mind
