  2. dont know how to get pics up on the post but mines in avatar, that was at 8month she is nearly 10months now. 24tts and improves day in day out. cant wait to get her on the lamp and she is already gettin there wi the ferreting game.
  3. spot on mate i will give them a ring on thursday when i get paid! that should give me a starting point. cheers
  4. thanks for the feedback lads much appreciated. i'll have to see what i can do money wise, i'd rather just wait and get a good'un now. so looks like a few weekend fiddles . i noticed the wide beam on the clulite when iv been out wi me mate so i wanted to try summat different anyway. the blitz does sound a bit big as id like to be able to tuck it away whilst walkin roads, no point attracting attention even if iv got permission. chart thanks for the offer mate i might just take you up on it. cheers
  5. hmmm something to think about then. i'll have a look about online etc and see what i can afford. within timescale. i want her at least tested on the lamp before september. its the same story tho one mans meat and all that. cheers
  6. and a golf cart battery? do they do the business? what about weight?? remember i'll be carrying a 100 rabbits by the end aswel lol cheers
  7. would i be happy with that set up simoman? would you? cheers for reply im a bit clueless on this one so need to be told
  8. chart i trust your judgement mate, what would you get? how much is a setup guna be? iv seen the clulite in action and its ok, but iv also been told by another mate who's opinion i trust that they're naff and theres better to be had. can someone make it simple for me and tell me what you use, and what you wana use? its something i dont know about enough so any info and direction would be great. cheers lads
  9. can anyone suggest a cheapish set-up? im planning on getting a lamp to start the pup off with, money is a bit tight atm so anywhere upto £100 is probably the limit. its just got to do maybe 2-3 hours a couple o times a week. once iv got a bit cash im guna buy a striker and a lithium battery etc but i need something to get her started soon> because she hasnt lamped being just 10 month. and i dont wana be relying on just goin out with me mate as if iv gota shout her back etc its not fair on him or his dog spookin every rabbit for miles around. plus id like to know she's guna run the beam etc
  10. Good times lovely lookin dogs, like the pic of the whip wi rabbit on the wall.similiar story for me today, my pup picked a rabbit up 1st thing just out for morning walk wi me dad, was wondering if it wasn't starting to get mixi as it sat a long time and when it ran she turned it once and I'm sure it held up a white flag! Needless to say she picked it up and foxed off with it. I got it off her in the end tho and it was fine no mixi, just thick. I later went to one o my permissions and did a set in a soil heap, 10 nets and jill went in. Waited around 10mins and 1st rabbit bolted, slipped the net
  11. Its just a sad truth, its an anti-establishment sport! I'm lucky as I'v got permission to ferret a few places. I would never ask for permission to run the dog. The dog is part of the ferreting team 1st and foremost. Once a few rabbits have been taken wi ferret and dog, askin to lamp will be the next question. I also do some shooting wi air rifle to keep the farmer happy and its very easy to explain to them that the rabbits have become wise etc and I can't shoot the bolters from cover, maybe the dog would pick some of them off? Respect your landowner and more permission will come, don't shoot p
  12. Two excellent replies from casso and hutch, thanks very much. I can't watch the vid as I'm on my phone, I will later tho. Here's me shouting fetch, fetch it, foxin FETCH IT! All I need to do is turn around lol who's the dumb animal now!! Cheers
  13. Looking good mate, raoul is just like his brothers then. Solo the one iv kept back is very boisterous,he had me can over last night so they were all lappin carlsberg! He also chases the dog round me yard and my lass. He's not as nippy as the albino jill I kept but iv got high hopes for her as a worker as she is the only1 who follows the mother everywhere and she is a real copycat. The runt has finally grown and looks more like mam everyday, its very easy to confuse them from tail end.I mite pop up and hav a look like one day. I'm around yours most days anyway. Atb
  14. She's a mixture of collie, bull, grey, sal, whip. I think that sams comment about trust was the thing mate, I'm just the fun police in her eyes, she would probably fetch a rabbit to you lol! Time and more training. Her recall is average, majority of the time its good but she does have her moments. Iv decided on my plan of action, walk then work, I had her retrieving her toy last night playing t.o.w. Next rabbit she gets I'm guna craft a dummy, mite even just go get one wi the ferret or gun.cheers
  15. No mate it behaved like a pup because it was/is a pup. I meant its a lurcher becaus its got that many bits to it, it can't be called anything else. I shoulda worded it diffrently maybe. Cheers
  16. Lapin summat summat had a pop because I said take a punt and explained my experience as a 1st timer. No need! I'm at least honest I coulda been posting about all the imaginary game my dog takes and how wonderful a dogman I am... But truth be told I'm not! Where I fail I ask, where I succeed I share! I said take a punt, this thread is sh*te. If the kid isn't askin genuinely then he shouldn't post. At least what I write is true. Atb
  17. All of the things I said were learning curves, knock my comments see how I care. My dog now comes back, walks to heel through livestock, listens, follows hand signals I'm working on the retrieve and because she didn't iv asked for help. My point was if ur patient all of these things can be overcome instead of giving up at the 1st hurdle. I coulda sold my dog at 6 month as a natural hunter ready for all game but I didn't. Iv called her off hare, deer and foxes. Iv got nothing to prove, I'm a novice but iv learnt from every mistake and success. When u can say the same I'll listen to your comment
  18. Happy as a pig in clover mate! The dogs is my pride and joy. Just from the suggestions on here she has improved tonight! I'll put in the effort with her and she will come good. Proving something to my mate is just the icing! Cheers mate
  19. Mate babble away. I'm fresh as a daisy and hav a sponge in my head. Everyting suggested makes sense and is now stored away! Cheers
  20. As long as ur patient and level headed take a punt. I did and I couldn't be happier. My dog has foxed off, chased sheep, doesn't listen and doesn't retrieve.... But I wouldn't swap her for anything! She's my 1st lurcher and I'll be honest she has taught me more in 10 months than I'll ever teach her. She is a saluki, bull, grey, collie, whip! So trying to work out what she has thrown to is impossible because at times I see all of those breeds in her, but she's a lurcher through and through, we'll get there eventually. If your not, get a lab! Cheers
  21. Thanks lads all comments appreciated and glad no one has killed the thread by takin the piss. Sam I think ur point of trust is very relevant I'v been thinkin along those lines. I will definitely try what you've suggested.catcher 1 I think now that, she is eating it so that I can't take it from her, as she is not bothered so much when I have shot a rabbit or even when it is cold. Atm she is not catching for me but herself. Thanks lads. Keep the suggestions coming people as I think others will gain from this thread too. Cheers
  22. I do think its in her mate, I think atm catchin a rabbit is rare so she gets caught up in the moment.iv had her out there with 'her cow' and she played fetch for a bit. In the house I can just send her for 'ya cow' and she will go and find it. I just want her to be perfect and there is no such thing. Tbh its only because our friend jake said to me a coupla months ago 'you'll never get her to retrieve' lol. Gota prove him wrong! Cheers mate
  23. My little joke mike.thanks for the idea tho! I know a lad who once caught a golden retriever on a pike dead bait!said the dog came in like a dream, the owner didn't take it too well tho! Guna go and see if she wants to play now. Cheers
