  1. I agree with that a dog can't be at his peak all year round but I do think he can (and must) be in good shape/fit all year round. I see no reason why I would let me dog get out of shape. It's not only training, walking, swimming etc. which helps my dog get in shape. I'm not a believer in free feeding. I feed my dog the same way I use food myself (endurance/strength enthusiast). I feed very little before his workouts and feed most after them. I know a dog is not a human, but in humans this causes you to use most of the energy to go to your muscles and makes sure none or very little food wil
  2. I think that before anyone will be able to give you advice, you need to tell what that dogs job will be. I like purchasing an animal from someone I'm familiar with and someone who doesn't need to make a lot of money from it. As often mentioned, working parents help. To me it's also important that the owner takes good care of his dogs. Do they live in humane conditions etc. Does the animal look healthy? Nice coat, normal behaviour etc etc. Think those things come standard when purchasing a new dog (or other animal). As with all working animals, in a litter there are always good and bad ones.
  3. Very pleased with all the input. Also posted the question over at the working bedlington board. I do have one more question. Do you guys think that (working)blood is more important than breed?
  4. Thanks! I have relatives in the South, so I'm quite often in England. Usually once a year. Maybe I can make use of that invite the next time I'm iver there.
  5. Thank guys for your input. I open and will consider all options. I have heard about the jagd they can be very loud and are not the best of pets? I would like a bedlington very much but I have never seen one which isn't a show dog on my side of the chanal. And even as a showdog they are rare over here. I will look into that forum. Plummer does also sound ok, just another one of those dogs very rare over here.
  6. Hey Guys, Since last year I'm really getting into ferreting. I've got two new jills coming in august, bred from working lines. ATM I'm also thinking about which companion I should get to work with. I have several permissions, one which is quite big and several which included quite heavy cover. Maybe you can help me decide, or at least help me gain some insight in what terriers can or can't do. Few things to keep in mind: The Dutch legislation does not allow lurchers/sighthounds to be used during hunting. I like lurchers but it's not wise to get one, or it should look like it isn't
