Hi Darren yes i did look but didnt find it. 338LM tell me about Amax, are they not FMJ?.
 -
Iam looking to hunt them, and yes i know i need a bigger calibre and am getting a 270.
 -
i snapped the de-capping pin in a Lee full lenght resizing die at the weekend. i mailed to to get another and they said they would send one free of charge from their factory in the states. thats good service.

I am looking for some wild boar in the west country or close to, anyone got any info or know of where i should start.
 -
same here had it for years. thought it was a standard thing.

I have just come off the phone with Avon & Somerset and they say that they will not give fox control on a .22lr only vermin, but they also say that if a fox becomes available at a suitable range it can be killed as vermin. but they also say that this changes from force to force because of the views of the chief officer. they also say they will not give fox at any time for .17hmr. I know this has changed as on my previous ticket i had fox control for my .22lr as well as the 223.

By inference the guy is reloading, yet he doesn't have a clue how/where to zero, so how does he know what cartridge to develop/use, it doesn't add up? It seems very odd to me and I'm surprised more have not picked up on that. i think we are only assuming that this guy doesnt have much experience, i would have thought that the fact that he reloads should mean differently but that may not be the case, it may be that he is new to 223 and is just asking the questions to save time in the field. in either case i fully agree that those who can help with good advise should do so.I grew up with

Tad rude that Bigrifle, i thought that was a perfectly reasonable question.

thanks for that 338LM thought i missing out on some sort of software !!! Thanks for the good shooting comments, we all get lucky every now and then!!!!.
 -
Yep worthy is right you need fox control and that depends which force you come under cause some wont give it for a 17hmr but they will for a 22 they are aiming at people that buy a 22 or 17 solely for foxing when you should be buying a cenre fire for sole use on foxes. but some forces are better than others, mine is great they are an absolute lovely bunch, so if anyone from Avon & somerset are reading this i love you all. Ps iam sending a variation in next week.

Though i would just drop this in for the know alls the missguided the cheats and the chap that started this thread!!! head shot at 207yards my point of zero dead on at 100yrds using a 55g home load
 -
i did see roy lupton use one during the day and he managed to call 2 in quite quickly.
 -
i concur with all the above dont be tempted to strech out the range.
 -
ok i give up whats a nirex folder??
 -
is that the ol irsh blarney remi!, dont agree zeroing an inch high is of limited usefulness but i gather its fashionable. Gram71 thats good advise and a very practical lesson for anyone. i seem to remeber from some testing that the best proformance from a 223 will be gained by zeroing at 175.
 -
Worthy, i think you must have found the perfect combination of barrel and bullet, fair play to you and if your hand loading will you do some for me mate!.
 -
hate to admit it but i think your right deker!!. full agreement.
 -
its common for hunters to zero at an inch high, i dont see a problem with it as it increases the point blank range, but its not something i do i must admit. if your hoping to be on target at 200yrds by zeroing 1" high at 100 your going to be disapointed though, as you will prob be nearer 2" low with a 40g bullet and about 3" with a 50g. but its all down to the individual and what they feel happy with. as for knowing where the bullet is, well you know as much as you would if you zeroed dead on!!.

Hi fox head. i would start at 23g and load 3 rounds at a time going up in half grain a time. when you are testing the loads dont try too many as the barrel will heat and the groups will widen out. take care to make sure the rifle points naturally at the target and as you breath the cross hair should move diagonally across the target, then either hold your breath a second or take the shot as you breath out, another way to do it is to take 3 breaths then hold and fire. hold the trigger in the fire position for a second or two after the shot this will ensure you donk snatch the shot. work on the

oh yes i see what you mean but you would still have to show that either condition had been met and the act of killing was not just one born of anger in the heat of the moment. if you see what i mean. -

Sorry iam a bit late picking up on this thread but i have been away.Matt its not a case of Quoting chapter and verse its a case of the law an act is law laid down by parliment not guidelines, if you can disreguard the law in the heat of the moment then you shouldnt be able to own any kind of firearm, thats how murder happens. i fully agree that out of control dogs need to be delt with, farmers and gamekeeps need to protect their livelihoods. but at the same time need to protect themselves from the possible conciquences of shooting a dog. i have had a run in with a local farmer who thought my -
Hi fox head i understand that you may be worried about a 4" group at 200yrd, your problem would seem to be you or your ammo, your bullet should drop about 3" at that range then you have a few other variables to add in so 4" at 200yrd is something you need to work on, you gave a bullet of 50g and 26g of powder in the original post does this mean that your home loading if so what powder and what bullet are you using??. i like to get a quarter or half inch group at 100yrds and an inch or so at 200 but this is my preferance, you need to remember that your tecnique will have an impact on your g
