SHARED KNOWLEDGE ?
HUNTER91 replied to HUNTER91's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
I wouldnt disagree with any word spoken there mate, your absolutely right abou the colleges giving people false hopes almost promising employment at every oppertunity and then letting people down. I just knew a mate of mine got the oppertunity when he left school and loved it, he was in payed accomodation and was given a terrier. He said he had never learnt so much in his life and loved every second of it. Somewhere in scotland i think mate. -
As i recently told some members when i joined the forum, im a 19 year old young lad and since leaving college after doing a 2 year sports coaching course ive found it very hard to gain employment, constantly being told that companys are wanting people with experience, i find it funny that they say this, as once the breed of knowledgable employees has retired what are they expecting to replace it. I've always loved being involved with the wildlife and hunting side of things and only recently discovered that apprenticeships where available. Does anybody have any idea where in the county dur

Yeah i think i'll do that mate, a couple of friends said it may be better and cheaper to do it that way. Thanks !

Ive been looking around several internet websites for a good looking kennel/run that wouldnt look a complete eyesore in the garden. Ive seen some really great looking pens and they all look to be great standard..as i can tell by the price, theyre all around £500 mark, to some this price might be a bargain, but not to me !!! Any help on how to maybe make my own or where to purchase a cheaper one would be fantastic !! Hunter91

a friend of mine recently told me that the SMK-XS78 Co2 rifle can be tuned up to become a extremely good value for money rifle. If so does anyone know how much it is to tune and upgrade or can you send your rifle to the tuner for it to be done ? Any information much appreciated thanks ! Hunter91

I have what i like to call a 'Springerdale' which is a springer spaniel x Patterdale terrier. Its temperment with other dogs id terrific and to humans and children its even better. He is very relaxed around the house and didnt take long to train. At 7 months old he stand at the size of a springer spaniel but has the adorable face of a terrier with a small beard and furry ears. The point is, when it comes to it he always seems to be willing and ready, just last week he was putting up pheasants, and ran into a nearby bog and grab a vixin (if thats spelt correctly) and was succesfull in tackling

Ive attatched a picture of 'Tink' my 5th gen pure saluki pedigree pup, shes 11 weeks old and to my eyes has a charming and very elegant looking face, alot of friends say shes a prospect, i myself believe the dog will live up to what people are already expecting. Shes a belter !!!

I have always been into air rifles long even before i knew much about hunting. I used to have a BSA Lightning and it used to do the job i required of killing rabbits quite easy. I lost all interest in guns and sold my BSA some time ago, i now have a SMK-XS78 which as most of you know is ran by two 12g Co2 capsules. Its a very reasonable gun for the price i payed and recieved some decent scopes with the gun for just £60, i think the scopes are tasco 3-9 x 40. The SMK does the job of killing the rabbits and is a decent gun overall, but myself and everybody else know that these guns are

It is a pretty small cage, my girlfriends grandad also thought that it was rubbish food. Out of the cage she seems very relaxed and playful, always running around, just on the night she seems to start crying and in the morning there is just alot of poo !

As I recently posted to the forum I now have a Five Generation Pedigree Saluki puppy bith of 11 weeks old. The sire's registered name was 'Charming Commander' and the Dam's registered name was 'Samirah of the nile' The other names on the Kc Certificate are mainly an arabic origin or some sort, im not 100% Tink as we decided to call her because of her cheeky and bright behaviour, has settled in at home very well, the first moments home she was introduced to 'Bud' Our Springer x Patterdale. 'Buds' gentle nature seemed to suit 'Tink' and on the first night she slept fine, without the sli

Im sort of new to the dog game, i know my breeds of dogs and which dogs are decent for which need, but with the coating side etc ive never been so good. Ive bought a loverly saluki bitch at 10 weeks today and combed her through once we arrived and she'd settled in at home. I tend to do this as a double check to make sure the dog is in healthy condition. To no suprise there seemed to be no sign of fleas. However, once i checked the coat closely i noticed a sort of black scab like substance around a few of the hair shafts, a friend of mine told me to double check it wasnt a tick, but i rubbe

Youngsters Gaining Permission ?
HUNTER91 replied to HUNTER91's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Does it cost for these licences mate ? Im quite new to the approach, i mean i know of the licences but not to a great detail. thanks -
Today i went to collect the second of my dogs, a saluki pup. It was from a farm somewhere around darlington and on the journey there i had a feeling that out of the litter 1 would really make me turn my head to the rest. I had been several times and watched the pups closely for early signs. However today, one remained quite reluctant to come from the pen as all the rest were running around playing, but this bitch which we have decided to name 'Tink' stood still and sat proud, i immediatly had a soft spot for her and she eventually came todling over. Shes a real stunner and cant wait to see

Im currently using an SMK-XS78 CO2 air rifle and have had no real problem with the gun to date, I have had several rabbits and a few pigeons with the gun which i purchased for £60 from a friend. I think its a rather accurate gun but lacks in consistency because of the Co2. I shoot mainly for rabbits and was thinking about purchasing a new rifle, a friend has an excellent air arms pre-charged rifle but i just dont have the funds to purchase a gun at the £300 mark. I was thinking a maximum of £150 for a gun, any suggestions that fit into this price tag ? thanks alot

I am a young lad of 19 and there are alot of open fields full with rabbit & other vermin. Alot of people around the area these days take it upon themselves to aquire a lamp and a set of dogs and take to the land regardless of permission. I myself however think that approach is wrong and it is rightly so. But how do youngsters gain permission to use their dogs or air rifles on land ? Most land owners these days would turn heads at youngster eager to hunt the vermin that is probably causing nothing but trouble. What kind of approach should be made ? I am still to overcome this dilema an

Tommorrow i will be going to collect the second of my pups having recently purchased a spinger spaniel x patterdale terrier dog pup. Alot of my friends have lurchers and ive always found them to be fascinating dogs and love the sight of them chasing down quarry. I chose a very bonny looking bitch and my girlfriend insisted on naming her 'Tink' for some reason unknown but the name sort of fits with the look. I am well aware of the temperment of the breed but am abit confused to whether the young bitch of 10 weeks will take to the Older male pup. any ideas ?

He's coming on leaps and bounds, has all the intellegance but sometimes he uses it as he pleases, at times he can be a little aggressive but at 7 months id put it down to being a little playful. Thanks mate

I have always had some sort of obsession with hunting, watching grown men and young lads walk around talking about what their dogs had acheived always gripped me. So lately after purchasing and SMK XS78 CO2 22' Air rifle, I decided to get a young pup to train and work the thick and retrieve, I seached several websites and kennels and asked locally of any good litters. I found an interesting young pup from Houghton Le Spring which was a Springer X Patterdale terrier, Alot of people at first thought that ''Bud'' which he was eventually named was a chocolate lab because of his chocolate brown coa

Hello everybody, im new to the forum and have just joined today. Im from a small pit village in county durham and alot of the locals are lurcher or terrier likers, i find the whole aspect of hunting amazing, from rifle hunting or hunting with dogs or ferrets for vermin. The sight of a dog in persuit of a hare or rabbit makes the heart race. I hope to enjoy many discussions with you all in due time thanks HUNTER91
