  1. hello there and welcome. what cross is your pup as it varys greatly throughout the breeds of lurchers as to what age to start them for example the smaller whippet crosses usually develop a bit earlier than the larger breeds.
  2. nice one of him retrieving the rainbow.
  3. most birds can hover for a short period of time as long as they are flying at the same speed as the wind they are flying into.
  4. try letting your pup jump over a strand of wire thats not barbed then youll see if its going to put its feet on there. one of mine will put his feet on solid fences but when he jumps wire he clears it by miles.
  5. pigeon and ale pie with suet crust mmmmmm
  6. i know what your saying about youd rather the dog give its all all of the time but surely it depends on the land there running ie a small field it would be quick turns keeping them away from the hedges ect where as on the big fields like where i live you would be lucky to get within 200 yards of one before its up and off, a lot of the time the dogs will take chase but slowly close the gap betweem them but saving energy.i suppose what im saying is my dogs tend to run according to the land there running on.
  7. i know they have probably been mention on here a lot but has any one used an irish terrier in the make up of a lurcher. the reason i ask is i have just been to hinckley to buy a car for my wife and the man had an irish terrier he said it had taken him two years to get him as he wanted a working type for the farm,i must say even though im not a terrier person i would deffinatly make room for one these it was generally very energetic with a good coatand by the looks of it they have a high prey drive and could be quite a hard dog.
  8. there is a man in my village called john smith and before the ban he used to breed these and he swore by them. i never actually saw them work but apparently the were good.
  9. yes i agree they are very intelligent but my brother was going out with a woman a couple of years ago and she had a standard, she wouldnt let him have a lurcher because she didnt like the idea of catching rabbits so when he took the dog out for its walk he would take the lamp and run it on rabbits without her knowing ,it got the idea but was so bloody clumbsey and slow it was unbelievable. idont think it ever actually caught a bunny yet i did this with a pure bred collie and got on quite well so if its brain your after why not use a collie.
  10. i have just been looking at the clasifieds in the countrymans weekly and seen first x poodle greyhounds. any one got any opinions on these eg how they work or what there good for if anything.

  16. i can honestly say my little bitch had plenty of wind and has run on lots of different types of ground. what type of dogs do you run? atb adam saluki lurchers 23 - 24 tts my current younger bitch came from my proven day time hare bitch. I breed a litter out of her. when the pups were 12 months old one of the dog pups accedentlie covered its mother. I kept a bitch pup from this mating. she self marked while excersising so I tried her a ferreting and she marks 100% works long nets and would match many a purpose breed x at lamping rabbits. as I say she suites my needs. sounds go
  17. someone i know had an old greyhound and a dogue that had an accidental litter apparently they all got given to a dogs home at 15 weeks because nobody wanted them as usuall for breeds that are a bit out of the ordinary. i think his one was the only one that was homed. from what i hear the parents arent very well looked after but at least his is looked after and leads a good life on the farm.
