  1. people over the road from me have hens.they locks them up at night and they never have any problems with foxes.they have a few pet terriers aswell.if you have your hens in a well build place they should be safe.no need ta kill the cubs.if i was a farmer i would prob kill every fox around, because they do alot a damage to the farmers.but the most of us are not farmers so alot of us would like to see the wildlife in the summer.if everyone was out killing cubs and young grazers we would have hardly noting to hunt come next season.last week i brought me dogs for a short walk down the fields.me lurc
  2. there would be no harm in bringing him out when hes about 6 or 7 months with the older dogs to get him used to working on the lamp.
  3. hes abit young.you could do a bit of training with him now.at that age i would get him used to the ferret and get the ferrets used to him.try getting them feeding together.and you need him to retrive aswell.theres nothin worst than a good dog that wont retrive.i would start play training him with a ball.
  4. well lads, how ye all keeping.yeah i had a feeling ye were messing.thats why i said i taught baw would buy saluki pups .i dont have saluki pups baw lol.to be honest i never even seen a full saluki in real life.i seen a doc on telly about them before hunting in the desert.they seem like a grand dog.so i was just wondering do anybody here have full working salukis.wouldnt get a whippet, nobody works whippets in my area, and wouldnt get a show dog whippet.plus i lamps foxes in the winter so would need something a bit bigger.i have a good mongrel here.hes a good all rounder.
  5. take it ye dont like the saluki then lads.i taught baw would like to buy a pup offa me
  6. well lads, have anybody here have a full working saluki or did anybody see them work.i was just wondering what are the like in the field.or would ye rather the lurcher.thanks, marty
  7. give him a tiny little flick on the nose with your finger.they hates that.he should stop after awhile.but be sure not to hurt him.
  8. give him a tiny little flick on the nose with your finger.they hates that.he should stop after awhile.but be sure not to hurt him.
  9. well done lad.once you get going you will fall in love with the sport.but be carefull ferreting this time of the year.the rabbits are breeding and they will be young rabbits in the burrows.chances are your ferret will make a kill in the burrow and could stay in there for ages.you should wait till the end of sept to start working your ferret.if you can,try get a second ferret it would be company for your hob and working with two ferrets is handy aswell
  10. i feeds mine rabbits and the odd fish heads in the winter.in the summer weather i would feed them the small dog nuts because the meet would go off and it would be drawing flies aswell.but i would give them some meet.i have a ferret here 6 years old and shes working great.feeding rabbits to ferrets dosnt encourage the ferrets to make a kill in the burrow.if anything it would encourage them to work better.and the odd time that my ferrets make a kill, the ferret would only stay down the burrow about 10 or 15 mins.i didnt have to dig out a ferret with a few years.
  11. sound.ill have a look at that site
  12. do ye know of anyone selling aviary bred goldfinches or anyone breeding them this year.i am lookin for a few but cant find them anywere.thanks martin
  13. does anybody knows were to get any aviary bred goldfinches.will anybody be breeding them this year or do anybody know of any place too get them.thanks martin
  14. to much milk would bloat the ferret.i gives mine rabbit in the winter and dog nuts in the summer.
  15. i would split them.its better to be safe than to be sorry
  16. i wouldnt have taken the pup.if you are goin to report him be sure to give the lad a warning first to clean up hes act.if the dogs are as bad as you say the last thing ye want is something like that to be on the papers.people would use stuff like as an excute to keep the hunting ban and make it harder for ye to overturn that stupid law.
  17. bad idea.to many young around.you would only be spending the day digging out your ferret or maby even lose your ferret.you should give longnetting a go.
  18. in ireland albinos are called greyhounds and hobs and jills are called bucks and does. dosnt matter the colour.i have polecats and greyhound ferrets.there all the same.just train them well and feed them dead rabbit to get the sent.i uses small does cause there would be less chance of the ferret making a kill.most bucks are to big and have a better chance in making a kill and lieing up in the burrow.but saying that i got a small buck last year.its the size of a doe.so i crossed him wit me does so should have some good ferrets this year.
  19. if you live near a fishin harbour you could ask the harbour master have he any old fishing nets.they wouldnt be as strong as nylon but they would be strong enought to hold a rabbit.we makes our nets outa them.its realy handy and free aswell
  20. if your new to ferreting.you would be better of to use just one ferret incase you could lose one.a small jill would be better than a buck.hobs have a better chance of making a kill in the burrow and layin up.and the feret finder is realy handy incase your ferret makes a kill in the burrow.
