CDV is a very nasty way to go. It kills species from pandas to marine life. It is a RNA virus, constantly mutates to affect many host species. It is airbourne and has a significant incubation period. It contaminates animals from considerable distances and once it can infect hosts within a confined area (such as shows, warrens etc) it spreads easily. Vaccination controls the virus, reducing its capacity to spread, the less animals contract it the more the virus is isolated/controlled. It's a case of looking at the bigger picture. CDV is a real threat to many species. Giving your ferts a vac

Fresh pork is fine. Its the processed and salted meat to avoid, of any kind.

Only use equine chiropractors myself. Physiotherapy has it place...last behind the other diagnostics/treatments that are more important. Imo, physio is just exercices that require not much more than common sense.

This one really p*ssed me off...one sick twisted fella.

Seen this before, think it is a Marshalls farm (America), they breed them for medical research and pet stores, doesn't really matter whose farm it is at the end of the day, it's disgusting. They might be sick nelectful b**tards, worst part is but they just don't care, unfortunately.

Is it this one...?

South Yorkshire Police, DISGUSTING!
ferret100 replied to GazDavison_91's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Not sure re: 'Moochies' and advice on recording calls. Would be interested to hear the loopholes in the legalities of it all. As far as I know, UK Law states that calls can be recorded without permission for personal use only. If a personal call is recorded and subsequently/deliberatley provided as information for 3rd party, then it is defined illegal. Of course people will be much more guarded if they are being recorded, but action can also be taken against people who record without permission. Ever heard the 'This call is being recorded for training & monitoring purposes' etc... -

There are always repercussions, but sadly once neglect has been exposed, those in the firing line try harder to hide it in the future/past/present. There's alot more behind the scenes regarding animal welfafe that neither the Police nor RSPCA would want in the Public knowledge, and they have great b*llsh*tters on the payroll to justify anything. The RSPCA sort multiple daily call-outs from the Police and they cover each others backs. I would like to see the RSPCA proving their worth regarding this poor ferret. -
South Yorkshire Police, DISGUSTING!

Yep, if you have conversations with Police/RSPCA, record them, even document the time/date/names etc, but very important you state you are recording the call at the very start of conversation, otherwise it's highly unlikely it could be used as evidence in Court for either yourself or RSPCA (If they genuinely persue this). I for one put a comment of 'more to the story', not having a go, but no idea what false charges and why they needed your van. Anyway, if you decide to involve the Press they could warp this for/against your favour depending on why the Police scooped you in the first place and -

yes it was dead  They tend to need them that way... -
why? Basic hygiene really. Frozen meat out in hot weather will be teeming with bacteria and flies in no time. I don't see anything wrong with giving very small bits of frozen meat you'd know they'd eat pretty sharpish, just not large parts/whole rabbit that would be lingering about in the heat growing god knows what all over it. I understand that its best to keep the meat fresh as possible when feeding, but leaving it in there for a day won't hurt. You don't see wild animals passing there nose up because it's got a bit of nose to it. My ferts aren't wild animals, their fo

Not so keen on the wet sheets over the hutch/coop idea. Yes to water filled and frozen bottles with a towel covering them, water trays, bottles and water bowls, damp towels, but at the end of the day you need them to drink the water as well as stay cool. Again, I use Ferrets Formula, I put a few drops in a bowl of water the ferts drink the bowl and I know they've taken enough water. And frozen rabbit is not recommended!

There's more to this story. Shame a ferret died because of it. -
Both. Ferts are awkward sods, the more available fresh water sources the better, especially through summer....if we even get one.
-
Aye, buy cheap buy twice...no faulting that logic.

Usually if a ferret releases its anal glands the smell disappears very quickly, as in within a few minutes...and it certainly doesn't smell like wee. It could be the kits are disorientated in the new home and are peeing in the bedding, which will sort in time. Tbh, the jill shouldn't really smell even if she is in season, so if she does smell odd, the sooner she sees a vet the better. You said you noticed the smell when the ferts were all sleeping together, if they are curled up with each other that shows they are all getting along. Jills will drag the kits about, it's her way of mothering
-
I don't see any problem with foaling in a stable. After all, anyone with sense would prepare the box properly. Field births aren't necessarily better.
-
Would be best to put them all together in whatever is the largest run/cage you have. As long as they have a dark nest box attached to the run, then the more space available for them all the better.
-
I'd say it's pretty normal. If the kits are 8 weeks, I'd put them both in with the jill full-time and let them get on with it. If they keep being separated, then the jill will do her best to drag him away and mother him as she won't know when the hob kit that she knows best is going to be taken away from her again, so if you leave them all together things should settle down very quickly. Atb.
-
That's very normal behaviour, jills drag kits wherever they want, if it's into a sleeping area then she is going to look after this kit well. If you have a hob kit now and are waiting on a jill kit from the same litter and breeder, give them a call and find out how old your kits are. Simple details can be important.
-
How many weeks old was he when you got him? Kits are nippy, I'm sure your jill is quite capable of putting a kit in its place.
-
If the jill just wants to mother him then I see no reason to prevent you putting them together, if she wants to mother this kit she'll probably want to mother the jill kit when you get her. How old is the hob kit now and the jill kit when you get her? Each introduction can be different, but if you now have a kit and a jill that enjoy each others company best to settle them in together before the kit becomes too independant. Just always keep a close eye for the first few hours and over the next few days if you put them together. Hope it goes well. Atb.
