  13. hey folks want an opinion from all gundog owners. i keep lurchers 4 and two terriers 4 ferrets im based in ireland and main quarry is rabbit and old sly however i have just obtained my airgun licence and bought a new gun ive been out a few times with my quietest old lurcher bitch in the hope that i could use her to retrieve the pigeons, squirrels, rabbits that i shoot however she is still a lurcher at the end of the day even though she 9 and flies off after the said quarry so essentially i want a gundog. I dont want a lab so was wondering in your opinions what would be the best alternativ
  14. normally you work a young ferret with an older one to start with however with ferrets its very much there natural instinct to hunt so they should do it instinctively but some a far better than others
  15. a really jinky running rabbit can be great to watch all the years ive been lamping and ferreting i still love watching the rabbit run he has the ability to make the best dogs look daft the odd time at least a good fox can be great too especially one thats been ran before a hare that runs a good race and gets away can only be admired pure athletisism and deer always gets the blood flowing my favourite its a hard one alright depends a good fox or a deer that is taken before it has hit a ditch just my opinion though also depends dogs you keep
  16. a golf course is not a public place it is a private property which in turn may be open to the public be it council owned or privately owned it is very much not public it would not be like land deemed commonage where everyone has equal right to be on the land be careful with that one or you might find yourself in the docks
  17. site running very slow since the facelift

  18. ess, Iwould advice a lab, they very steady when trained properly and not as giddy as a ess or cocker spaniel, not knocking the spaniels i have 2 of them i use from september to end of january for my own rough shooting and also to beat on a partridge shoot for a mate. The lab i use mainly for picking up and for duck shooting and find her a lot steadier than the springers. what about a german pointer
  19. hey folks just got my self an air rifle and i am in need of some sort of retreiver / pointer that will be mainly used on retrieving rabbits and wood pigeons what in your opinion would be the best dog for the task i keep lurchers and ferrets too but need some thing for shooting with all advice welcome and appreciated

  23. i completely agree on ur above comment i said in my previous post that realistically i have too much however i will be getting some hunting buddies to help me i have also made farmers aware of the reality of having just me walking the land so they agreed to allow 2 other people walk the land also only 2 lads i really trust and who are proper dog men the farmers didnt have anyone really walking there land apart from the odd poacher so there happy ill be walking it regularily also all farmers staunchly against any type of poison even livestock friendly ones so dogs and guns are the onl
