  1. Well I am still waiting for the Mk6 springers to be delivered but I decided to make a start and so borrowed 5 MK6 Fenns. I am setting the traps (which are genuine Mk 6 Fenns) well in the holes so birds etc are unlikely to get to them and with plenty of clearance for the trap to spring (i.e. not hit the roof or the walls of the hole). The traps are covered with fine sand so they can not be seen and set so they are just above normal floor level. Here's the problem...... the traps seem to be springing OK but out of 7 or 8 activations I have only got 2 rabbits ( these were both cleanly c
  2. I have got both types but only use the MK 3 these days. I have experimented and you can not pick up MK1 collars with a Mk3 receiver to get any kind of consistent or reliable signal but it will work the other way round. You can pick up Mk3 collar with a Mk1 receiver box but it does not give the same kind of clicking and the depth reading on the wheel will not be anywhere near accurate. All tyhe best AF
  3. I must say that I have tried a few different recepies for Bunny Burgers but this one is the best I have tasted so far. I have tried this and other recepies as sausages but I have not found one that works/tastes just right yet. All the best AF
  4. Thanks for the advice all. You can find out lots from books and DVD's but nothing beats practical experience. All the best AF
  5. Cheers Fenbo. This is just the sort of info I was after. I didnt want to spend loads more money if it wasnt necessary. Alternatively I didnt want to lose any expensive new traps!! I suppose 2.5mm fencing wire would work as well as your welding rod. All the best AF
  6. Just ordered 15 springer Mk6 traps for rabbits. Obviously these do not come with pegs or anchors. I have not used any of these traps before. What does anyone do to secure them? Is a thin wire spike strait on to the end of the chain good enough or do they need extending? I have read a few articles about setting the traps in the holes, covering them etc but none of the articles I have seen give much of a clue about securing the traps. I have seen some excellent posts about earth anchors but is there a cheaper/simpler way. If not what cable is used for earth anchors, how long and anyone kno

    GPS

I heard about someone using a hand held GPS to mark the position of mole traps. Anyone tried this?? All the best AF
  8. Was down near Coventry last weekend. Got 37 rabbits by shooting, snaring and ferreting. Out of the 37, 30 had myxy, some of them were realy bad. It was more a case of stopping the poor things suffering rather than sport. My main area is near Doncaster and I spotted one rabbit with myxy there this week so I suppose most of the others are doomed now It was looking like being a good season.
  9. Got two lovely sandy kits from Netter today. Very strong and healthy and obviously well handled. They are a credit to you Netter. Also enjoyed the chat. Kits are just settling in with the other ferrets now and no problems. Thanks again Netter you are obviously a gentleman (and there are not many of us left). All the best AF
  10. Had a similar problem last year. Had a Rhino 3-9x50 scope on my Weirauch HW99s. After about 12 months use (and just out of guarantee) it suddenly went out of zero by a couple of inches. Tried all sorts of remedies, re-fitting the scope, different mounts, different pellets but eventually changed the scope and problem sorted. Dont know exactly what is wrong with it but I suspect that something inside has moved or shook loose as the HW99 does clonk a bit when its fired. Got an AGS 3-9x40 on it now and the only problems are operator error!! They are guaranteed for life on air rifles so hopefully i
  11. This disease broke out in farmed rabbit populations in China in 1990. It is extremely infectious and develops very quickly. It is invariably fatal and wiped out millions of rabbits in intensive rabbit farms. The disease kills the rabbit quite quickly and leaves no obvious outward sign, unlike the swollen eyes etc of myxamatosis. In death from Viral Homogenous Disease, the rabbit will often have its legs stretched strait out to the front and rear. There have been occurrences of the disease in the UK, mostly on rabbit farms, but also some in the wild population. At first ther
  12. I'm going to call my next dog 'nboogie' Its so I can shout out 'Get down n boogie' Ill get my coat then.
  13. Got my copy safe and well thenks John b. Its a good book with lots of clear well drawn diagrams and pictures. Well worth the cash.
  14. Cost me £50 for a vasectomy on a hob and the vet said it it would be another £50 if I wanted a test to make sure the operation had worked. Apparently it is vey easy to cut the wrong tube (they didn't mention anything about that when I had my vasectomy - mind you the vet didn't do that one ) I decided to take the risk and the hob has been fine he sorted out 9 Jills last season and no kits
  15. If you get ta Hob done then you can have as many Jills as you like. If you get the Jill done and then get any more Jills you will need those done as well.
  16. My vasectomised Hob has already 'raped' one Jill who isn't even in season yet. He lives the life of luxury in a Ferret court with 8 Jills in total. There are 2 nest boxes in there and I notice that he has been kicked out by the Jills and is now kipping on his own since his nuts dropped.
  17. Im fairly new to snaring rabbits, only been at it a few weeks but with fairly good results. Just been doing a bit of searching on the internet and found the DEFRA Code Of Practice for Snaring. http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countrysi.../snares-cop.pdf The thing is it talks about having a stop on a rabbit snare 5 inches from the end. I knew about stops on Fox wires but this is the first time I have heard of this on rabbit snares. Has anyone tried using stops on rabbit snares? Does is make them less effective? What has anyone used for a stop? All the best AF
  18. Hello, just joined this forum. Mostly into ferreting, have 8 working Jills, use purse nets and long nets. Do a bit of shooting and have just started snaring. All the best
