Quite often merles have an odd coloured or half coloured eye with no effect on the vision. However if you are mating merles please note that a merle to merle mating will lead to deformities such as blindness and deafness etc in pedigree dogs so I would also avoid it in crosses as well. Plus 36% of ped merles that seem to be okay do have some level of deaf or blindness.... this is not an eye colour thing by the way... But as has been said a 'merle' eye is not a wall eye. Regards Tina

Wasnt being diarespectful at all, if you read it right, just making the point that not all rescues, just like not all people, are the same.... you took a puppy in in order to ensure it got a good home, which I commend you for, I wasnt dissing you, quite the contrary in actual fact..... Tina

...I got a foster in from wales,...right state he was in, no muscle, flat footed, very thin, low on back end coz he couldnt really support it, ens of tail missing from where he had chewed it, his white bits were yellow from where he had been sleeping in his own pee etc.... picture dont reflect quite how poor his condition was cud say you welsh are all the same........ but I'm sure your not Tina ps he is now a very striking lurcher....

How much Barf to give terrier daily?
TinaBean replied to Jordb543's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I would start on the same weight split into 2 meals, morn n eve. And keep an eye on how the dog looks and moves...thing about calculations is that they dont take into account a dogs metabolic rate, exercise regime etc. I check my dogs ribs on a regular basis, if they feel too skinny I up the food which is usually over winter when they burning more calories and if there is abit of 'excess' covering I cut the food down, usually in hot weather when they not running bout so much. Regards Tina -
Wasnt suggesting you pass her onto a foster just making a point that you get ya facts correct before dissing people and rescues!!! Not my concern what you do with the dog really and am sure you will get a great home for her Tina

Hiya, I foster for LurcherLink and have just re-homed a 10yr old Hancock dog, and he got very much 1 on 1...living in the house with me and my other dogs... he didnt need feeding up tho...lost a few pounds n looked good when he went He was my 6th foster!!! Try not to diss the small independent rescues, they not like RSPCA and need all the support they can get to keep taking in lurchers...incl alot of pts cases in pounds!! Regards Tina
-
Yea, they run trials so she can have a look with her legs as well Tina

If living in an area with biting snakes such as adders it is advised to have a barrel name tag holder on dogs collar (if wearing one) with a piriton inside. This, if given when bitten, will help reduce the effects of bite til get to a vet Regards Tina

Is there racing tomorrow?? Tina -
What type of shooting you thinkin of doing.. look into HPR's as well. Brittany's are good. Would avoid weimeraners as a first dog. I have Large Munsterlanders...some say not the easiest of dog but they good with people, other dogs, biddable, easy to train and very very into humans but also a thinking dog. Good for rough shooting. This is my youngster, he is 19mth old. I also have another 2 and they work well with my lurchers when they out for their daily 'walk'. They have the energy level of a spaniel without the hyperactivity Regards Tina

Me too, so long as offal doesnt make up more than 10% of meat mix and you are not too far away Regards Tina

This is a great topic. Just lost a pup to worms like in the first post..but am actually posting to add theat Milbemax is not good for collies and other herding type breeds...so I would be wary bout using it on those crosses as well. Tina

For those who want to run their dogs but not sure how they will go, Lurcher Link the rescue, runs at Highgate every 2nd sat of the month. Next one is 11 dec and is after the fur n feather auction. Gates open 2:30pm I think racing started once they got all booked in. The dogs are hand slipped and can be run on their own or with others. The distances to pick from are 100m, 250m (2 bends), 414m (4 bends), 580m (6 bends) and 710m (8 bends). Apologies if I got the m wrong but I always forget It is £3 for owners n £1/ race. There are stalls, hot food etc and all the money goes to the rescue as
